Revere Pewter on walls and edge comb gray on ceilings. The photo below is this combination.

CDR Design, I could possibly try the Edgecomb Gray on the ceiling with the Revere Pewter walls but it's a 3 story townhouse and I did the whole 3rd floor Edgecomb Gray and it was very beige compared to the gray in Revere Pewter so I know it looks ok in the above picture but I'm scared it will won't look right in real life and will look like gray wall and beige ceiling. The only floor we painted in the townhouse so far was the 3rd floor = Edgecomb Gray. We did it because we were getting new flooring on that floor and thought it would be best to do the paint first before the carpet. Now that the carpet is in, it's a light gray/silver the Edgecomb gray doesn't look good with that carpet because the carpet is gray/silver and the walls are beige = Edgecomb gray.

Summitsittin - you mentioned you just did your entire downstairs Revere Pewter.....what color did you do on your ceiling with it?

Suggest collingwood BM or decorators white, it is a cool white gray,no undertones. How high are your ceilings?

SW rain washed at fifty percent for ceiling

Well.....had the painter try Revere Pewter at 50% this morning and it was really gray/silver so I don't think is gonna work. We did not expect that. The Revere Pewter on the wall is greige, more towards beige than gray and so we did not expect the 50% blend to be so gray. So....back to the drawing board of what color to paint the ceiling.

Why not do ceiling in revere pewter with a higher sheen, provided your ceiling is in good shape? That's what I intend to try in a room that has a 10 foot ceiling.

I did try Revere Pewter on the ceiling at full strength but from what I've read everyone seems to think ceilings that are lighter and not the same color as the wall are better.....I just need that color. Help!
I just don't want a white ceiling I don't think because the crown molding is white. I'm shocked Revere Pewter at 50% was what it was....a completely different color. I really thought it would look the same color just 50% lighter. Actually it didn't even look much lighter, just a grayer color.

That is why I recommended Edgecomb Gray for the ceiling....because it is more taupe. Paint takes on a different tone on different surfaces because of how the light shines on it. It can look different also, depending on the floor, what exposure the room has (north, south, east, west) as well as other elements in the room (when you start adding furniture).

Revere Pewter tends to be (more so than a lot of paints) sort of chameleon, taking on the colors around it. So, beige floors, Revere Pewter is going to look more beige on the walls.

The ceiling should be painted in flat finish.

Use pieces of 2x8 lightweight drywall to experiment on. Buy some small paint sample jars. Then paint the samples and hold them up to the ceiling. Only way to truly tell.

Ok CDR Design, we are having the painters put up Edgecomb Gray on the ceiling today to test. They had done a small sample of it yesterday. It's a little darker than I'd like for the look of the ceiling, but, I don't want a white ceiling. The Revere Pewter in this room on the walls isn't coming out as dark on the walls as the other test room so that's really throwing me off.

What color is BM rainwashed at 50%? I know at 100% its a teal/aqua blue.

There is no BM Rainwashed. Here is SW Rainwashed. SW 6211. I am not recommending it....simply posting for your information.

I've seen the rainwashed at 100%, never seen it at 50%. I have it as a sample color I'm considering in one of my bathrooms.
I'm going to wait to see when the painters put up more Revere Pewter on the wall today. They did 1 small wall of it and the ceiling in that 1 room Edgecomb Gray and so far the ceiling looks light enough. I'm just hoping the Revere Pewter looks darker on the first floor when more walls are done because it's looking very light. So strange because up on the 2nd floor it looks much darker.

My next need help is going to be paint colors for the 3rd floor of the house because it has a new silver/light gray carpet we just installed.

Are there more windows on the first floor?

No...there are less windows that's what's so weird to me that it's lighter. And it looks a lot more gray on the 2nd floor and much more neutral beige on the 1st floor.

Basically, it is going to take on colors around it. You mentioned beige floors on the first floor......so it will take on a more beige tone on the first floor.

I don't think it is a problem that it appears to be a different tone on different floors. I think it makes it more interesting.

Both the 1st and 2nd floors have the same beige floors. I did want it more gray but it should be ok.

I am seeing a lot of light on the first floor---open windows, large slider, open, plus the reelection of the light off the pool of water.

Second floor---blinds closed---no direct reflection of sunlight from water. Darker.

By the way, I think the walls and ceiling look great on both floors!

Thanks. I'm going for the transitional look....with gray, greige, taupe, white, cream, beige, a touch of brown or teal. It's all new to me, we just bought this house and my other house is for sale still and it's old world/Mediterranean...so a big color and décor change.
It's just so weird that on the 2nd floor the Revere Pewter is more gray which i think I like this gray color better. And...on the 1st floor it's so tan/beige colored. Hopefully when I get home later the painter's will have more wall color put up so I can see more.
I need to pick all new furniture and décor to match this new color scheme. Ugggggh.

I think you would be happy with Collingwood BM, on the ceiling.

Jill.....also once you add furniture, the paint color will change again.....not a bad thing.....all paint does this to a certain degree. Revere Pewter is one that seems to have more chameleon effects than most.

I see there are no photos in your idea book. A suggestion would be to start by browsing Houzz for neutral rooms you like and adding them to your idea book.

Uh oh....painted ceiling Edgecomb Gray and it's way too dark! It only looks a hair lighter than the Revere Pewter walls. I need it to be much lighter but not white....just a smidgen of color. What do I tell painter to try next?

I think your last picture looks amazing!! I have never thought of putting a color like that on the ceiling. Congrats on your new house, it looks beautiful!!

I don't want the ceiling that dark. I want it lighter like this picture with primer on it but I don't know what that primer color was.

Is there anyway to take the primer picture to a local paint store to see if they can match it?

I would try some samples on a 4x8 piece of drywall before you paint the whole ceiling again.

If you want it that light, I would suggest Pale Oak OC-20.

I used Edgecomb gray at 50% for the ceiling. I will look for more pictures of it as well as this one.

Here's a little better view of ceiling - Edgecomb gray at 50% and Revere Pewter (regular 100%) on walls of living room and hallway. Kitchen is actually Edgecomb gray at 100%.

Hi, I have a tray ceiling in my kitchen and considering walls and ceiling in revere pewter (moulding white). Do you think it will be too dark for a tray ceiling?

I'd do the ceiling in white and the ceiling beams in revere pewter.

Here is a photo close to the feeling you would get. My concern is that, if this is your kitchen, I cannot see any "wall", so I think the ceiling painted Revere Pewter would not connect to anything.

Thanks CDR. Here's a picture of the kitchen from the other end. There are a lot of cabinets but some wall space too, especially in eating area near window.

Upon seeing the entire kitchen, I think with the all the medium-toned cabinets, I would leave the beams white and paint both the walls and the ceiling the saturation level of the current wall paint, but in gray lighter than Revere Pewter. The Pale Oak or Edgecomb Gray I posted above would look good.

Thanks CDR. Any thoughts on hardwood floor stain to complement the kitchen cabinets? I can't go too dark with young kids so might just restain the natural that's already there. Also if I do a grey on walls and ceiling do you think grey leather counter stools would work? Or better with black stools?

I am painting my hallway walls RP and my kitchen edgecomb gray with cabinets white dove and don't want my trim to be same color as cabinets, what other color would you recommend for trim? I am also painting my family room a blue gray and would like to be able to use same color for trim. Suggestions?!

@ttanzola I just did all kinds of research on White trim and ceiling colors, and found that BM Simply White is a great white to use with Edgecomb gray and Revere Pewter (my LR). I just did my LR ceiling in BM Simply White and will do my trim in that color now as well. I was told it goes very well with BM White Dove, Edgecomb and RP.

Like this color combo of RP and EG for walls and ceiling. Any suggestions for colors for interior doors?
