Sauce Eggplant Chandelier Challenge.

last modified: 11 years ago
I have made a deal with the devil. Well, not the devil exactly, more like the husband. I have been wanting new chandeliers in my living room for as long as we've been in this house/cabin. And in order to obtain said chandeliers, Ive had to resort to bribery.

One hundred and twenty two days of homemade sauce and/or eggplant parm (he is very food driven/motivated) and i can have my chandeliers.

So, with that said, i would love suggestions for the new chandeliers that will (eventually) replace the sad 1980s fans that i loathe so. I have no idea if i should go with one or two new chandeliers, what kind/style..etc..., so i could really use some ideas! I figured by the time i have finished this sauce challenge i will have also figured out what chandeliers to buy. Also, i was hoping i could get some moral support as i trudge through pot of sauce after pot after pot.....all for the sake of decor.

An electric pressure cooker would totally make this a one hour, one pot job. Seriously. You just shouldn't tell him you made it in a pressure cooker. It has a sauté setting. Brown each meat, set aside, do the onions then pour in sauce and put meats back in. :P

If not that, then at least make a big huge pile of meatballs and freeze them for future batches.

I'd just make it every day in a row until he gets sick of eating it.

But you would have to reduce it, since, unlike slow cooking the water won't be evaporating. But that takes like 10-15 min max.

Today's project....amazeballs sauce....entertaining half a dozen college kids for the Xgames, I think a vat of sauce in the freezer will be perfect!
Awesome fiss! You have to let me know how it turns out :)
Well, didn't get very far...was using new knife to slice onions, now have new bandaid on finger. Probably best not to personally make meatballs. Will make kids do it when they get home!
Omg ouchie! Do you have a food processor? I use a mini one to chop the onions, too many to chop by hand for me.
Ouch, fissy. Yeah, better let someone else do the meatballs, otherwise the meal might have too much "red sauce".
    unscheduled protein!

So sauce made, using food processor for rest of onions...tonight we took RBW and cross country skied into a restaurant...very fun, good food, it's the end of their vacation, so nice night out. It was slicker than snot on the way out, I wiped out 3 times, and the last time was a face plant...and I am going to have a bruised cheekbone that's going to make Beloved look really bad! He's lucky there were witnesses!
Off to soak in a hot bath!
Oh, No, Fiss! Rough day all around. :-(
geezaloo fiss! today was NOT your day! so sorry but i did chuckle imaging the face plant :)
Hope you guys love the sauce, did you put all the meat in it? one time mr toats elbowed me in his sleep and literally gave me a black eye. No one believed me at the factory i worked at, i could see the sympathy in their eyes.
All the meat...and maybe an extra sausage or two...the annoying thing...Beloved, who is an excellent downhill skier, wiped out twice on the easy bits...and I laughed! I've cross countried a lot more than he has! In Maine, where it can be super icy. See what you get for mocking someone!

Toats, I was searching for foyer lights when I stumbled across this beauty. This one was a custom piece but Corbett lighting has a very similar one in the vertigo collection. It'd be easy to dust too.
Gee, fiss. Bruised and bleeding. Well if somebody asks you "What fight did you get in?" Just say: "You should see the other girl."
Fiss, just stay under a warm blanket today and let that bad juju fizzle out.
Can you freeze ahead the portions?

    Mmmmmmmmmmmm
lookin good! and is that granite? its really pretty. and also ive never had a maple pear pie but it sounds awesome.
Pie is hard to replicate for the gluten-free....but for savory pies, like quiche, shredded potatoes makes an awesome crust.
Yup, granite, thanks. We both fell in love with it, so it was a no brainer.
wait. is that pie gluten free?
How many days of sauce remaining? I feel like you should post an updated chalk board every few weeks... :)
    ...109 days....(curls into a fetal position)......
Sadly, no, sweet pies are rarely successful GF....

Toats, honey, have you amended your deal then? let's have little side bar discussion with the judge on this one, uuuhhh? Rred???

Toats, thank you soooo much for "the awesome sauce receipe". I haven't made it yet but I can see where you would not need pasta. You must have to stand on a stool at the stove to see into your big pots (I know I do). Remember those huge pots when you think about getting a new gas stove when you move. They don't slide on those grates like they do those smooth surfaces (I realized). Looks amazing. I can smell it from here.

I cut up boneless country style pork ribs, brown and put in my chili along with the chunky ground beef. Very good that way.

Thanks again for the receipe. You have made many people happy with that!!!
you are very welcome auntie :)
    that chili sounds good!

Can't believe you are going to sell this after all your hard work...but coastal living is wonderful...if near the beach be prepared for the sand.

I have teal accents in my sunroom, soon to be family room. I bought a sofa last year and I think it work well with the teal.
Toats, what kind of pork chop do you put in the sauce? Mine were amazingly dry...I think they they were way too lean.
fiss, i use thick chops, thinner chops do come out dry. actually, the addition of porkchops was the only part of the recipe that wasnt original, i just added em in one day. so im still experimenting with the chops.

Toats, just caught up with your news about moving. I was born in Charleston and have lived here all of my 65 yrs. You must visit before you make a final decision. Myrtle Beach is just an hour and 1/2 away and Savannah is about 2 hrs south. Charleston isn't just the city. Things have grown so much that all of the surrounding towns like Summerville, Mt. Pleasant, Goose Creek, James Island, Johns Island, Folly Beach, Sullivan's Island, Edisto, etc., are considered part of the Charleston area. You would never be bored but it is not like Myrtle Beach which is a more beach resort area. If you want history, the arts, concerts, sports, beaches, fantastic food along with the military then this is the place. If you want to live in the country you can but still be close to action. With the ocean and so many rivers, fishing is very popular and with the "woods" close by, hunting is also very big. The entire area is still growing steadily and quickly so jobs of all types are here and new businesses open daily. We live in a smaller historic town called Summerville which is about 20 miles from where we grew up in Charleston. Oh yes, one more thing, your talents would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Toats, I'm starved.... haven't eaten and that's the first picture I see while scrolling. Lol ;D

Love the fox, Toats. When I saw it in Target, I thought of the teal accents in your LR!

And double yay for double digits!

i put blue fox in pic on purpose just cause hes so darn cute :)

Actually...something along those lines would work for me. It's a no brainer. Never have to ask "what's for dinner?", you know what to have on hand and what to buy, once you get going it does have to just simmer for a while AND you get to watch for any subtle signs that this may be a bet he wishes he had a chance to edit or change anything about it...but you both "have to live with it"(no matter how terrific it tastes) But for sure you can pretty much go on automatic mode. A no brainer works best for me But I am nothing like Our Toats : )

Toats do you eat it every night too?

NOOOOOO i do not. i eat it the night i make it, then i eat other stuffs rest of the week.

Look what I came across shopping at HomeGoods.
