What about floor to ceiling drapes on the wall behind the headboard? Not sure if it will keep with your antique theme but would make it feel more lush and wow. I'd get some in the color of the outer band on your rug.

I would add damask wallpaper to the wall behind the bed, a chandelier and a bench seat at end of bed.

Ooh yah, its pretty dull. But my decorating style is totally different from yours - more along the lines of a bleached deer skull hung on the wall or funky wall paper. I would find an over-scale wallpaper like Maureen suggested that is almost tone on tone and do the wall just behind the bed... there is so much choice out there (check out the wall mural from anthropologie!). Or how about an over-sized vintage seascape painting? I also love antiqued mirrored walls in a bedroom. Just try to have fun and don't be scared to step outside the box if you find your room too uninspiring.

I like the wallpaper and the chandelier ideas. Your desk area looks nice but the bed area is a little flat. You can keep everything in neutral tones but you need more pattern and textures for that wow factor. I would remove the four small mirrors above the bed and do the wallpaper or a tone on tone stencil. Add in pillows or a throw with different textures and/or patterns. Another option would be a jute or sisal area rug. This example I used of the nursery is one of my favorites. It really shows that using different textures can add interest to a neutral color scheme.

Rather than wallpaper, I would look into painting with a stencil or painting horizontal stripes on the wall. Wallpaper trends tend to change often and its a pain to deal. The room is lacking a little bit of texture. What about adding some poufs at the bottom of the bed? Lighting will also add a wow factor. I would change that out.

All depends on budget on whether you are able to spend a bit or if you have limited funds. Plus, are you willing to add texture or some additional versions of mono neutral color? Here are two rooms we did for a client where we did something similar but also on a very tight budget of under $2,500 per room. Which included all new white sheets, linen duvet bedding & decorative pillows, new wall art, two different grey tone wall paint, a new ceiling fan, new bedside table, decorative lamps and a few accessories. Wall color, texture fabrics, a beautiful pattern area rug, art and live florals or blooming plants will make a huge difference in making any room come alive ~ good luck!

I like all your ideas. I intended to change out the light fixture---just hadn't gotten around to it yet. I had also thought about the bench idea and will look for one. I do like the idea of the wallpaper, but have toille on the desk chair and the bedside table round, so not sure how that would work together. I'm not sure what you mean by the stenciling behind the bed. Can you send a picture?

Forgot to say that I really like the rug in the picture patricia sent, but I have had this rug for a couple of months now, so it is not returnable.

This is the tone on tone damask stencil I have in my bedroom...found it easier than wallpaper and could customize.
