I don't have suggestions for a white or a stain, but I did want you to look at all these painted beds from Maine Cottage. There are 35 colors, some views of beds in rooms, and there are whites, too.

Have you thought of whitewashing it (cutting a latex paint with water)? This would give you the white color but also let some of the grain of the wood show.

I think Kevin has the right idea, pine will never give you a perfectly flat paint job anyway so I'd enjoy the rustic appeal the white wash could give.

Pickle it. Same as whitewashing basically, paint with some water to thin it down, so that you get color, but the grain of the wood shows through. It's light and fresh and would go beautifully with blue accents.

New to this site but I'll offer my two cents. If you're dead set on a white color, I'd definitely consider painting it the off white color of your choice then going with a chocolate glaze. Something like navajo white with chocolate glaze. this will give you more of a "factory" looking finish that combines the white, grain, and accentuates all the rough sawn marks, edges, and grooves in grain. Google chocolate glazed pine and see what you think. Good luck.
