Onion Seedlings

I'm a well-seasoned perennial flower/shrub gardener and garden designer, but still rather new to vegetable gardening.

I recently bought a six-pack of yellow spanish onion seedlings. Each of the little cells contained about 4 or 5 little onion seedlings. I planted each cell of seedlings about 6 or 7 inches apart in a raised bed.

My question is this: should I take each cell containing the 4 or 5 little seedlings and separate those little seedlings to plant them separately or should I just let each little grouping of seedlings grow together?

My guess would be that I should probably let them grow a bit more and then separate them so that each little onion plant will have room of its own. Yes?

Thank you, in advance for your advice! I really do appreciate it. :)
