What to do with maple floors?

Hi all
We just bought a 1920's house, and we are refinishing the floors. The upstairs floors are maple, and the contractor recommended we do not stain them as they will get blotchy. I've never seen natural maple in an older home, will it work? I always thought natural maple had a very modern look. And what color paint would you suggest to compliment it?

I love houses of that vintage. Not sure about the floors becoming blotchy, but maybe someone else has information about that.

Any chance you have photos of the space you can share to get a better idea of colors that might work?

It is very difficult to site sand and finish maple floors with a colored stain. Your contractor was correct that it comes out blotchy. I don't think you would be happy with the results. The natural maple will be beautiful in your home. I'll let the designers help you with color. Steph Landers
