I have never been able to transplant carrots successfully, especially ones that big.

First, carrots don't transplant well. They should be direct seeded in the garden or in the container you plan to grow them in to maturity.

Second, you took a tender plant that was grown inside and put it out in the intense sun. You have to gradually expose indoor plants to the outside a little bit at a time. You can't expect them to just be fine. Even if they were in a sunny window the light inside isn't as bright as it is outside. Reading up on how to harden plants off will help in your future.

Your carrots might survive if you give them some shade and take the time to properly harden them off. But whether they will make a carrot is anyone's guess (I wouldn't bet on it though).

I didn’t grow my carrots from seed but purchased them in a pot from a nursury. I planted them in the garden and they too have wilted greens. Also I separated the carrots before planting. Was I suppose to leave them in a clump? Any hope for the wilted greens and maturity of the carrots?. hmmmm Wonder why they sale potted carrots when they don’t transplant well. Will the babies every grow up to be productive adults?????

Judy, to answer your question you should not separate the carrots if there were multiple seeds planted in the same pot. The roots get stressed very easy. You should have left one carrot and cut off the tops of the others. As said, this is not a very good way to grow good carrots, planting seeds in the garden is best. Nursery sell these since some people will buy them, certainly not cost effective either. They sell bush beans in pots too, which is ridiculous on many levels, but they will grow even if not very healthy looking.

Good that you saved the carrots, once they got established again. The transplanted carrot roots may look like anything except what you expect a carrot root to look like. Twisted. Multi rooted like a tooth. In a knot. A fist shape.
