Unfertilized squash?

corieg

After several unsuccessful attempts at a small raised garden, I decided to give it a go again this year. Due to previous failures, I stuck with just squash/zucchini and a couple of cherry tomato plants. I also planted from seed for the first time. I was thrilled to watch my plants grow and thrive like never before. They are huge! I noticed my squash produced large amounts of female flowers long before I saw any males. In spite of this, my zucchini began to grow anyway (perhaps a neighbor is also growing). I am now seeing plenty of both male and female flowers as well as bees, yay. Sadly, many of my squash look like these in the included picture. Is this just lack of pollination or blossom end rot? I should mention that there are also many squash growing as well now. Also if unfertilized, is it best to remove the fruit or just let it be? While the flowers are fading, the fruit seems pretty attached to the plant. Thanks!
