The cabinets were not reduced in height. Most appliances need a minimum of 34 1/4" clearance and the countertop was built up 2 1/2". The overall height of 37". Very common in European kitchens. When we design countertops that are 3 1/2 " and over, we would have to lower the cabinet height. In this case an ADA height appliance would be used. European brands like Meile offer dishwasher that can be installed 2" lower than standard. There are less options with wine coolers, but they do exist.
