corn problem - maggots? in tassel

My corn is starting to silk now, it's shorter than it should be due to the wet cold spring and the the slug population exploding accordingly. I've had a lot of aphids on some tassels, but they are causing no issues and the lady bugs found them, that's not the problem.

This morning I found several white grubby/caterpillar looking things nestled down in the center of the tassels. They have dark tiny markings on the backs and pointy little heads. I can't find anything online about pests in just the tassels that look like it. The only moths we have flitting around are the little white cabbage moths.

I'm stumped.

When my camera is returned later today I'll post a picture.

Until then, any ideas?
