I believe that the general rule is for a feeding every day of an amount the fish will eat in ~ three minutes. I don't actually feed so regularly now that my pond is loaded with plants and some algae, but I tried to be regular in the first year. As mentioned in another current post, I also have a water storage pond that was saturated with parrots feather (I believe). I have pretty much left those fish to their own devices and they did fine for years. Unfortunately, I managed to forget about turning the irrigation pump off recently and almost drained it leaving a mountain of plants and dead comets. I lost ~ half of the fish. I raked most of the plants out and I suspect that I will need to feed the fish more regularly until the 'pond' is reestablished.

I agree with Chas. Some people feed their fish every day, some once in a while, others never.

In a new pond the fish probably should be fed more often since there hasn't been time for natural foods to have developed.

I usually feed mine at least once a day, sometimes twice on the weekends. It is when I go there to relax, feed the fish, watch the water striders, and critters that come to drink.

I have a much smaller pond (with only 3 fish) than yours so that can make a difference too. Yours sounds great.
