Colors are so fickle! I suggest you go to your local paint store and buy several sample containers of those you think might work. If you have a paint fan deck, make sure you check out the swatch at the bottom of that strip. It indicates what hues the colors above it are based on. For example, you may see a light tan but that bottom swatch has a gold tone to it and if gold is not what you had in mind, keep looking.You need to try them on the walls - the light in your specific foyer will influence the finished color. Pain in the neck but there's no other way to be sure.

This grand foyer is painted with Benjamin Moore's Shaker Beige. It's a versatile, warm beige I've used in my own home.

I agree with michigammemom , this exercise you have to do many times at the paint store to get the shade you want , why not have some stencil work in a interesting color ; coz white is no colour its Just the Canvas for us , we Paint our Life on it ! Good Luck

So sorry to hear about your color headache! I had the same problem with a taupe that I picked out for my house. I was so sure of my choice after painting at least 6 different sample colors on the wall. But alas, it was not taupe, it was a smokey lavender color...ACK!

Luckily I was able to use the 5 gallons of paint for a friend's house that I was staging for sale. It was the perfect shade of taupe...in his house...go figure!

Thanks everyone for your input. I love the grand foyer picture and Ben Moore is my favorite paint. Sounds like a winner. I will try the samples as you suggest, also. I'll re-post when my masterpeice is complete.
