Is that a wall sconce in the nook? Hard to tell. Also, is the kitchen light over an island and if so what size is the island? Finally, how high are your ceilings? Initially I think this would look stunning in the living room:


Ceiling height will determine a lot of what you can put in the space. We also want to make sure we co-ordinate finishes because of the open concept. Not matchy-matchy - just share similar characteristics.

How about this Spherical Cube Pendant from Circa Lighting? The finish would blend well with your built-in unit. It has weight without being too overpowering.

-Yes, that is a wall sconce in the nook. It would be great to keep it (more lighting for homework nights) if I can find something that looks good there, but also not opposed to replacing it with art or photography if it would look better.
-The ceilings are 10ft coffered ceilings.
-The island is 55" x 34".
I was thinking a wrought iron or bronzed orb or geometric pendant at first, but visualizing something a bit lighter like these two options are great ideas. I guess something darker would be too much with all the brown I have already?

No not necessarily. Bronze is certainly doable. Just want to carry a similar finish throughout.

With regards to the wall sconce, if you wanted to modernize a bit, something like this could work in it's place. it also has a switchable down light.


With 10' ceilings, that gives you a maximum fixture height of 36" (minimum 7' off the floor)

For the kitchen I like the idea of (2) lanterns if you have the ability to move outlets??
With your island length, and assuming 12" centers and from the end of the island edges, a pair of 9" (or so) pendants would work.

You could actually get the larger lantern version to hang in the nook if desired?

You already seem to have some wrought iron going on, so a black wrought iron chandelier and maybe some sconces or pendants would look beautiful with the creams and whites and the color of the wood by the tv cabinet.

Thanks, WD. I like your ideas. I am also placing a pendant light in the TV room. So that's four separate lights I have to come up with. Yikes!
-The TV room pendant that I like is The Broxton Orb Chandelier by Currey and Company. It is 32hx24dx24w.
-The breakfast nook pendant is the Beckmore Lantern by Currey also. It is 37h x 20d x 20w. Is 37" too high?
- Are these two together too matchy matchy? Should I switch their spaces, i.e, would the orb look better with the round table? Or maybe the lantern would look better in the TV room as it mimics the pattern on the rug?
-Do you think I could still go with 2 lantern pendants above the island?
We live on the river, so there is a beautiful view through the bfast nook area---

You need a coffee table in a big way! Your choice of that might push your chandelier choice more rustic or more glam...

Fans are passé now? I think that probably depends on what kind of fan you have, and in what part of the country you live. Beautiful room, and I agree that this seems like a fairly ordinary fan for such an interesting room-- but there are some fans out there that are really modern and sleek. To me, a chandelier in that room would look really formal-- in a room that is not particularly formal looking-- but maybe you want it to be more formal. ?
