Yes, you can. If the second one (the pup) doesn't have roots, you'll want to root it first, of course. That's covered in the Aloe FAQ in the (!!) FAQ section of this Forum.

Another thing you'll want to remember is to acclimate your Aloe to full sun, if that's what your rock garden gets. If you plant it right away and it gets blasted before it's had a chance to get used to full sun, it will sunburn which, although unsightly, usually isn't fatal.

I don't remember your particular question ever being asked, so we're breaking new ground in more ways than one.

Thanks cactusmcharris. I'm happy to hear that I can divide my aloe. The pup is almost the same size as the "mother" and has definately rooted.

Somehow I missed the aloe FAQ. Thanks for pointing it out.

I will definately acclimate the aloe headed for the rock garden for full sun, which the rock garden gets, before I place it there. I can't help but think that the aloe will be happier outside in the sun rather than in my apartment.
