I am planting oregon spring, stupice, san marzano, and glacier. I put them in a nearby garden in milder zone 24. I have never tried fall or winter toms before. I hope to take cuttings and try growing them all winter. Probably with some plastic mulch. I also hope to grow some zuchinni this winter, planted in a month or so.

That is a great site! Thanks! I thought now would be too late to start the winter tomatoes but I guess I will start a plant or two just to see. I'll try matina and stupice since those are the two cold-tolerant toms I have.

any chance my tomatoes will finally fruit this fall??

i live in the central valley and this year my tomatoes have been a bummer. i have two fruits only on three plants and both have taken about 2 mos to ripen. i doubt that they taste very good. the plants are large and flower, but are nearly fruitless. i've added some phosphorus and some manure to the soil over the summer and have seen them grow but no more fruit. any ideas? shall i just ripe them out? or hope to nuture some fruits before the frost in nov?

You should search or post in tomato disease forum. Do you have flowers on the plant that then dont form fruit? Or no flowers? If no flowers then too much nitrogen fertilizer or too much shade. If flowers fall off then too hot, too much water, calcium deficiency or something else. I sometimes get the something else problem- havent figured out what it is.

I just read that we're suppose to put 2 asprine in the soil at planting time or add these asprine to the soil in dissolved form later.

Also, tomatoes don't set fruit very easily over 90 degrees, so you might see some new fruit setting on now that it's cooled down.

it probably got to hot for the maters and the blossoms dropped before they set fruit...i had that problem last year...u might see a few more before fall

thems the breaks with those maters!

I wonder if staking my toms, and pinching out suckers will help with winter production. Think Ill try it.
