peruvian apple cactus

Hi to all. I have a Cereus peruvianus that just finished blooming for the first time. I have been told that it will produce a fruit. What I don't know is if it is edible? How do you know when it's ripe? How do you eat it?

Any answers would be appreciated.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!
