Lots of information is available. Suggestions are to clean off the tubers, put them in newspaper or similar, and store in a cool spot over winter. The plants must have tubers formed in order to do this.

You can root the dark ones, too. The one's i've had trouble with are the white/pink/green ones, which are my least favorite anyhow. But i did get those to overwinter from tubers last yr so it can be done. I underplant some of my larger houseplants with the sweet pots (tubered plants or cuttings). They don't thrive but they live well enough that come spring you can get fresh cuttings and go from there. The easiest to me is margherita. But i've done it with the black ones and caroline, too.

Awww thanks! I like that idea to root them and put them in the houseplants. Good idea! I'll check out that website too. I was wondering why not put them in a vase of water since they seem to do well in water.

I think they are happiest with as much light as you can give them in the winter. I usually try to overwinter the tubers, sometimes it works, sometimes not.

You can just set a pot of potting soil in the way and let the vines drape over it, they will often root along as they go. You can also drape the vines across the top of the soil in a pot and then place a heavy rock on top of them - forcing them down onto the soil, they will usually root where their joints touch soil. Once winter weather is in the forecast just snip the vines and haul the pot indoors. They make pretty houseplants but they need a lot of light.
