You sure they are eggs? Little black stuff is usually worm (e.g. cabbage looper) droppings.

Neem can kill these and if they are eggs, its effective against most insects that like to chew on leaves as well. Neem is quite safe to use on foliage as it only affects the digestive system of bugs that get sprayed with it, or they eat the foliage. Can you supply a photo??

Thanks for your response chudak and ksrogers.....I am not sure they're eggs. I did see my first cabbage looper out in the garden tonite, but it was in a different bed where I didn't see any damage. I got him, but hope he has no friends or family....For now, I'll assume that the black egg looking things were droppings from the looper. Thanks so much for your help....

If you see little white moths flying around, they lay hundreds of eggs on the undersides of cabbage family leaves and elsewhere. These hatch and can crawl everywhere, as well as spin webs to drop onto other nearby plants. I feed the wild birds all winter and when summer comes, they love to spend time in the broccoli patch grabbing as many of these little critters that they can.
