Rue

My rue is 3 years old and growing like Jack's beanstalk. It has to be 6 feet tall. But it looks awful just flopping all over the place after a rain.

Can I take cuttings and if so when? How do I do the cuttings. I have read the old postings but nothing popped out at me.

My rue has never had flowers either. Guesses as to the reason?

I want to know if it's REALLY rue! I have my doubts. It usually grows to less than a metre tall, and it usually flowers in summer - on stalks.

A lot of plants will flop when it rains - unless the plant is so top-heavy that it threatens to uproot itself with the weight, I wouldn't worry about it. But you can cut it back if you want. If it's REALLY rue, the best time to do this is in spring. At this time also, you can divide the plant.

I've never tried cuttings from rue, but if you cut into second-year growth (not the new top growth) they should strike for you.

fatamorgana - Once I saw the Rue, there is no mistaking it. What I have is definately NOT Rue.

What can I do with the Artemis? Can I do cuttings and if so, when?

I have all ready chopped (excuse me - hard pruned) it way back several times. It just keeps growing and growing.

Now it seems the 'rue' in the ? above is artemesia ... I have a ? on artemesia:

I have an artemesia bush (several years old) that smells like camphor when the VERY fine (silky almost) leaves are crushed. I lost the tag it came with & can not now remember what it is! The branches now are very woody & I prune it back a lot in the Fall. Are artemesias poisonous?

The rue I have is old also (about 3 ft. tall) & does well but doesn't seem to spread by seed very well but it 'resides' with the comfrey, costmary & clary sage.
