You know, out in Northern California, we had the same problem... I couldn't even plant till mid-May... which is insanely late for us. I didn't lose anything, I just have all babies, because I couldn't even till the mud until mid-May. I DID lose a plain ole culinary sage... probably to root rot, and it is in a raised bed. I can definitely sympathise with you, for once! :o) my tropicals are all suffering.... :o(

So far, the culinary sage and caradonna have withered up and died. The jury's still out on the licorice, rosemary and the lemongrass and I'm hoping to dodge some of the thunderstorms this week and let the heat rejuvenate everything else. Oddly, my basil is looking ok ... the dill that I interplanted with it must have taken enough water to balance things out. Even with raised beds, I'm hoping for moderation over the next few weeks to salvage a garlic harvest - we'll see.

Not only the exceedingly soggy weather, but the warm winter - where plants started greening up way too early and got snapped by below zero spring temps, really hurt many established plants. Several sages went bye-bye, as did a few, but not all thymes, some lavender, hyssops. Mostly, woody, Med-type plants hated the super soggy conditions and died. Slugs have found this to be nirvana and they are causing great damage. The tent catepillars have defoliated entire hillsides around here, but so far, my property is fairly free of the nasty critters. The roses are enjoying all the rain and are getting ready to bloom profusely.

I lost a lovely "Kew Red Lavendar"... could have sworn it was blooming and doing great one day, dead the next. Oh well, it's agood reason to go to the growers market and get new plants :o) Enjoy! Lynn

Nothing dead, and it's been very dry here... But watering and rain knocked over a 4-foot stalk of lovage.

Time for chicken soup. :)
