In the center of my basil container I noticed a thick brown scab-like growth covering one of the stems. It was slightly bumpy and looked almost like seeds growing up the stem. It was only on one stem so I cut it off at the base and threw it away.

Does anyone know what this is? The leaves seemed fine....
