Does it put you to sleep like the regular LB does to me? AND does it SPREAD like the regular LB? LB doesn't enjoy growing in my neck of the woods, but it still spreads like crazy.

Yep and yep. Lime Balm can be used in the same ways as Lemon Balm, and it behaves just the same!

Thyis sounds interesting; I'll look for some for this Spring.

I've grown lime balm for years. (do a search for lime balm, not lemon balm lime and see what comes up) I find it is much better behaved than lemon balm - it doesn't spread quite so vigorously. Still spreads mind you, just not with such abandon.

'Lime' is a varietal cultivar of lemon balm, Mellisa officinalis, and is not a distinct species. It was discovered at Well Sweep as a chance seedling among typical lemon balms that were being grown for sale, as I have been given to understand. Being a sport of the species type it is asexually propagated, as any seeds that 'Lime' produces may revert to type. At least this is according to the information that I have had access to about it.

As is the case with many such cases with other species you may want to be wary of allowing the plant to self-seed. If the species type is more aggresive than the sport/cutivar then it will sometimes crowd it out.

My lime balm is creeping rather than upright. Did I just get a weird cultivar?

Does anyone know of a good supplier for lime balm? I would really like to find some for my garden, but have not been able to find any on my own. I am also looking for stevia and sorrel. Thank you!

My lime balm has been like herbalbetty's, well-behaved. Actually it has been too well-behaved for my liking. I find it hasn't been as robust as the normal variety for me.

As far as "lemon pledge"....I find that different plants smell and taste differently, not just lemon balm. The variety can be from genetic diversity, soil, growing conditions, or all of the above. But try finding one at a nursery that has a smell that appeals to you. And of course folks that find lemon balm too "lemon pledge" like should harvest often. The younger leaves are more mild in smell and flavor.

Hello~ Since, according to OzarkMtMan, [interesting story that is probably true as Cyrus Hyde, the owner, has an eye for such things)the Lime sport of Lemon Balm was found at Well Sweep Herb Farm, I went to their catalog and sure enough they still have it listed. So if you have not yet found or bought one, they are a possibility.
