2nd picture was before the cabinet was placed...

I like the cabinet very much and it fits. What I don't like is the two candle stick holders with the urn, because the shapes are repetitve. (Like all the pieces, just not together.) Also think you have too many pieces. Why not add a comfortable chair and a one large mirror with the cabinet?

Everything runs south from left to right. Remember to to vary heights so your eye moves up and down across wall. Place blue vase on right side. A single wall hanging behind chest... I am thinking one of those gorgeous mirrors that is framed with beveled mirror. Pottery barn offers one.

The cabinet is pretty, but I think it's too small. Get a longer cabinet or console table, and then build up the height on the taller side of the wall by leaving the blue and white vase on the left side, and then accessorizing with another material -- perhaps a large glass bowl, a decorative box, or a framed picture. The other accessory on the dresser should be no higher than 1/2 of the way up the blue and white vase, if that makes sense.

I totally agree with Jade that if you want to keep the cabinet you have there now, you can place a slipper chair next to the console. That might be a nice thing to have anyway for people to take off their shoes (or put them back on) near the door.

Do remove the small mirrors, as they don't seem to go with the rest of the arrangement. You could hang a larger mirror behind the cabinet, however. That would be lovely.

Wow you have a lot of wall space to cover! The chest is pretty but needs to share the space with a smaller chair or small upholstered bench with some patterned cushions. I would move the chest to the left and put a lamp on it on to the high side of the wall. If there is no outlet then consider a tall decorative piece. I would accompany this with a mirror or 2 prints mounted one above the other staying within the perimeters of the top of the chest. If you choose a mirror you could work with a dark work frame but not too thick or metal frame in any shape, just be careful with size. It should balance with the chest, lamp and wall size. A round or oval mirror would look fabulous because it would soften the sharpness of all the lines in this space. Add colour punches with throw cushions on the chair or bench. If you are keeping the poppy print I would pull a bit of that scarlet colour into the cushion or chair pattern to create some repetition. As for paint colour, its hard to make that call but if you like green undertones but want a more neutral saturated colour sample something like Benjamin Moore's Florentine Plaster. If Lighter is where you want to go maybe something like Natural Linen. I think this particular wall could be wallpapered for a real kick! I hope this helps you.

How about a bench or settee? The back wall would be very pretty paneled.

Just saw the other photo-a round foyer able would work in the middle of the space. Paneling around he whole entry would break up all the painted wall space.

I'd remove the 3 small frames and replace them with 1 large piece of art. then I'd add a chair and a lamp on the dresser and remove the other things to relocate elsewhere. perhaps the plant on the floor can go on the table if you use a floor lamp instead of a table lamp.

Move the chest to the right of center of the wall. Tuck the Ikea chair in the corner with a great pillow. I like the blue and white, but it needs to be tied in with other pieces. Take the vase you have now and, if you can find its twin, put them on your living room mantle, with a mirror, so they can be seen from the front door.

Your home is lovely and I'm struck by the size of the foyer. My first impression was too much going on in that one small area under the staircase. When I saw the size of the whole space my immediate thought was a few lovely large items in the whole foyer rather than so many crowded onto that one wall. I would like to see a longer piece of furniture with a mirror over it, a lamp (I did see an outlet on that wall) and perhaps a lovely bowl or dish on the furniture piece. The big wall over by the living room would look lovely with a long upholstered bench (no arms) with a large picture or flat architectual piece on the wall behind it. In a foyer that size, I would think "less is more".

The cabinet itself is beautiful but i don't think it works with the space I think a longer lower running cabinet or side board would work best against the wall. It's to busy and nothing matches, lose the plant on the ground the pot is way to small for such an open space, a large mirror ( or a piece of art work with similar colours as the one in the other room) above the cabinet would work the candle sticks are nice are you trying to go for an oriental theme ??? you could add a plane vase with some greenery and bright red flowers to tie it into the next room and something like a antique silver oriental box and a lacquered oriental tray and a couple of photo's would look lovely. :)

All walls were white as you can see on one pic in living room. I painted all in this sage green. Now I am tired of it and thinking white-yellowish color....

Kate, have you thought about doing a wainscoting on the lower half of that wall in white and leaving the green up above. I think that would help a great deal....along with peepod's suggestions above.

I would keep the wall plain in colour, if you break the wall up with paneling it will make the space look smaller, maybe just go for a neutral colour always works.

Comfort homes....the examples i posted are just for example. Her space is much larger and can handle this application. I think that it will make it look more finished. Not saying the home isn't beautiful as is, but I'm getting the feeling that why she was trying to fill that space with so many smaller objects is because the background felt too vast. It could be simplified easily by doing this and just adding a few larger pieces that fit the area better. It doesn't even have to be very detailed, but will ground it a little bit and feel more inviting. Just my opinion.
I would even extend the wainscoting to the wall under the cut out that looks into the living area. The intake vent on that wall is white which is standing out to me as well. It should either be blended into the white wainscoting or possibly painted the green of the wall, so it doesn't stand out.

Beautiful foyer! I think a warm yellow would be gorgeous. And to answer the original question, yes, you need a larger piece in that area. A longer console table with some interest (sheving, drawers, etc) in a 60" length would be more suitable for the space. Accessorize in fun colors such as rust/coral.

Thank you, mzlove and mpoulsom! I thought about the panel on the wall too and even toured to Home depot and tried to install myself:) I will for sure taking a serious thought about it again. About the foyer wall, I probably will keep it in gree. But As you can see, the high ceiling wall on the staircase is still pure white. I have been thinking to paint it. But it's too high and impossible to DIY. So I am going to hire somebody to paint it in warm neutral color to avoid darkness. Any good suggestions about the paint color.....whitish and yellowish neutal? Thanks again!

Don't like the blue vase with the pink flowers. Seems sort of fussy to me. I think if you replace that, with the plant you currently show on the floor, it would look very nice!
