Thanks for the picture, Citychicken. I've been leery [I was going to say chicken, but didn't know how you'd take that :)] about starting tomatos at home. I don't know why - I guess b/c I've never grown them from seed outdoors. Are the home-grown transplants generally OK?

I started broccoli and cauliflower in late January, but they got too leggy, so now they're outside seeing if they can survive to be planted in a week or two. I also started onions and lettuce, but the lettuce didn't come up so well. I'm new at this but I think it's been pretty much a failing experiment this year. Next year I'll probably try winter sowing because I understand that's pretty fool proof. The seeds know when to mature.

I'm getting dirt this weekend for my raised beds, so I'm pretty excited to start direct sowing my cool weather veggies. I'm doing all veggies by the way.

I always start my peppers and eggplants for transplanting on Valentines weekend. I just finished planting a dozen varieties of sweet and spicy (not hot) peppers and 5 varieties of eggplants. They are on a heat mat and under lights. I'll wait about another 3 weeks and then start tomatoes, potatoes from seed, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, brussels sprouts, some lettuce and some annuals. jwww

i started cherry tree seeds in the fridge last august, then was growing them in pots since november. i had a ton of seedlings, but i gave most of them away and only kept 4 for myself.

I'm waiting until it gets warmer to move them outside. I'm worried it might still be too cold for them.

I am starting some of the hardier annuals this week..cosmos, snapdragons, violas, etc. Also I am sowing outdoors some Sugar Snap peas. I will wait a couple of weeks to start the less hardy stuff or they will get to leggy before they can be put outside.

I have started Sweet Annie, Immortelle, Peppermint Eucalyptus, silver Sagebrush, Silver Tansy, Chinaberry (Melia) and some hypericum that I got from a florist and dried the seed pods. They are in flats on a window sill on old heating pads. I like making wreaths and bouquets so I thought these would be good for that. I get a kick out of trying unusual plants that I can't find in nurseries. Have never grown any of these before except Eucalyptus. An adventure!
