Probably the closest thing would be the ones with iron phosphate as the active ingredient. Surely this would disqualify you, however, as it is certainly a pesticide. Maybe you need to study the guidelines more. Seems like pesticide free would pretty much dictate plants like most hostas that are pest magnets would have to be skipped except where damage is tolerable, such as with roses that get black spot mostly late in the season.

The iron phosphate baits are wildlife, pet and kid safe so maybe they are ok?

I'd ask them if the iron phosphate ones mentioned abover are okay.

I love snakes and toads and ducks. I have heard some frogs but have never seen any snakes or ducks around here. I do have a billion birds. Too bad Robins don't eat them.

I will check with the county. Thanks for the reccomendation. I might just have to forego hostas all together which is too bad because I have so much shade.

I've used beer traps with fantasic results. I used a beverage bottle with a large opening (Snapple bottles are good) and dug a small hole so the bottle could lie at an angle with the opening level with the surface. In the morning it was full of... (warning: this is gross, yet oddly satisfying) partially dissolved slugs.

Iron phosphate is approved for organic gardening and is also sold in health food stores as a nutritional food supplement. It's deadly to slugs and pet safe. I use Sluggo, an iron phosphate slug killer.
The term organic is confusing. Organic isn't always safe.
What is natural to the environment and safe isn't always called organic.
