Yes, looks like Oakleaf Hydrangea, aka Hydrangea quercifolia.

Can't say I've ever seen an oakleaf hydrangea with such cylindrical inflorescences. Could it be something else?

Those leaves looks like rodgersias and the individual flowers look so large, and the panicle is so long and strong looking, maybe it's the warmer growing conditions....

With blooms like those, it looks like the photos I've seen of "Snowflake" oakleaf hydrangea. Might have to try and track one down-it looks lovely!

It's hard to see clearly in the photo, even with zooming in and in and in ... but I have to say that does not look like oakleaf hydrandea to me at all. The leaves are all wrong, and as stated above the flowers are too cylindrical. Oakleaf hydrangea's flowers are in a cone shape, and the leaves are longer than wide. Like an oak leaf! These leaves are in a circle shape.

I don't know what it is. From the photo it looks like some kind of perennial, not a shrub, but that's a guess. Rodgersia is a good guess and I'd start there if I were trying to get one of these plants.

We're talking about the plant in the lower left corner of the photo, above the grass? There is no question that this is an oakleaf hydrangea. The photo taken from another angle evident in the link eeldip attached confirms that. The leaves are distinctly lobed like an oakleaf and the flower is that of a hydrangea.

There are numerous cultivars of oakleaf hydrangea with some variance in their appearance, but this just looks like a relatively young plant that is not yet well-established and filled in.

I don't know what Rodgersias others have been looking at, but it certainy doesn't resemble any rodgersia I've ever grown - these tend to have very large, palmate leaves and frothy flowers on tall spikes, much like an astilbe on steroids, to which they are related.

Maybe it's a new cultivar 'GMOakleaf' Hydrangea.
