Personally, I would not be without dwarf Rhododendrons.

There are many that mature to under 3' x 3' and some under 2' x 2' they all flower and are evergreen.

Thank you for your help! I would love to plant some Rhododendrons and Azaleas but perhaps in our side yard or front yard. We have a curious puppy and I have read that rhododendrons and azaleas are extremely poisonous if ingested.

Also take a look at the Pieris shrubs. They grow in full sun to part shade and have many varieties. They flower profusely with gorgeous cascading flowers. The Pieris japonica 'Prelude' is a dwarf that only gets to about 2', but there are other varieties that get to about 4' and larger. And they can be pruned back very easily to maintain the size you want.

I also vote for pieris japonica variegata evergreen part shade is ok easy care.Just needs acidy soil..love this plant..
