Hydrangea Hopefull or Hopeless?

Moving into our new place, I discovered some tall bush with some very brittle leaves/stems as well as some dried dead flowers on it, and a bunch of little white dots/balls of new flowers to come.

Again, i'm a black thumb and new to this, but really want to turn the backyard and other areas into something beautiful.

So, the Hydrangea that is in our patio...I cut off the bottom stems, was not hard, if you touched the stems they pretty much broke off without any effort. Very brittle is an understatement for the entire plant, which is about six feet tall.

The leaves of the plant/shrub/tree have black dots and some black streaks going through them. What is this? A problem I am sure since the people that were here before did not do anything to it for two years. With it being so brittle, can I expect the tiny lil white dots that could be future flowers to actual bloom?

Anything to do to save this? Again and as always...any help is greatly appreciated!

Can you post a picture? Doesn't really sound like a problem. Hydrangeas are pretty easy here unless planted in full sun and not watered heavily.

I hope the link thing works. And i also hope that it's not something that is normal for hydrangeas lol. Learning...one lil growth at a time! Thanks again!

Yes its normal.Can anyone please help me out how to post pics here? I have posted problems with star jasmine and would like to attach pic? but how? Thanks and your hydrangea looks great.I wait for spring time before pruning because its easy to see then which ones are brittle and old.

Upload your photos to photobucket.com. The following link shows an example of what it will look like on photobucket.

Copy the HTML Code (under your pic in photobucket), paste it within your text message on the forum, then click on 'preview message' and pic should show up.
