Try Yang's Nursery in Gig Harbor. I do not believe theyÂre considered a discount nursery but they have many trees and some good bargains.

I'd try checking the regular retail nurseries in the area. They are all starting or getting ready to start their fall planting sales and good deals are to be found on Japanese maples as well as most other plants. Most are discounting their woodies at 25-40%. And these won't necessarily be 'generic' maples but named forms that you are unlikely to find at any so-called "discount" nursery.

I think the only full size true discount nursery in the area is Flower World in the Woodinville area. About half the price of Molbacks and 3 times as large. :)

I'd dispute the notion that FlowerWorld is a "discount" nursery. Their prices tend to be lower than a lot of other retail nurseries and garden centers because they grow 90% of their own stock. Most other local nurseries are resellers of stock grown by a whole host of area and national wholesale growers. But that also means their selections in many areas will be limited - you will not find many, if any, patented plants available and perennial selections will be mostly the old standbys. Many of the newer and very popular selections of certain trees and shrubs are proprietary and if you don't bring them in from the grower or their licensee, you just don't get them. And although you can find some decent trees there, again look for the standards and not the widest selection of named cultivars.

If you've never been, it is well worth a visit just for their annual and houseplant/tropical display alone and it is a great source for standard "bread and butter" plants at a good price but if you are looking for specific named cultivars, less common plants or the latest, hot selling perennial, good luck :-) And the sales help is hard to find if you need any.

Thanks, gg, but if I'm looking for something named and patented, I go to one of the many high end nurseries in the area already. I live in Bellevue, where most nurseries are priced for Clyde Hill and Medina.

Angelo's is probably irreplaceable. He bought leftovers, I think - overstock, over-grown stock, and lots of rescue plants. He must have had just regular sources, too, but there was a lot of that. A big trees yard that was almost all rescue plants. Incredible deals from a bulb grower who would overstock. And he was 5 minutes away. I'm going to miss him.
