We live outside of Portland, at about 1600 ft on Chehalem Mt. Today when I did my rounds of the garden, I saw that --probably overnight-- some (large and strong) creature has dragged my large water lily in its pot from the shallow pond where it flourishes. It appeared to have eaten much of the roots and then left it lying there. The equisetum (horsetail) growing along the bank was mashed down, but it entered the water along a short brick path and so there were no prints that I could reliably see. Other plants appear not to have been eaten. Any ideas?
