intrusive Web address/site while reading this forum

I sent a message with my concern to the site administrator but decided to also send it to the regulars on the forum. I hope this is just a wierd cyber-glitch and not an attempted (or accomplished) invasion. Here is what i sent to the Web site Admin: "Last night when I was on the Northwest Gardening Forum my computer alerted me that the site I was contacting was not registered and did I want to proceed. Since I was in the middle of reading a thread on Northwest Gardening Forum which I found interesting and had not touched my keyboard, I was just annoyed that my ever vigilant Mac was warning me about GardenWeb, a to date, very safe Web site. I clicked "go ahead" and immediately saw another address (previously covered by the warning message). I immediately shut down my web connection. This morning I searched my "History" file and found the address: SPCP_NAS_question_160x600_Flash_Fall06. I would be very interested in knowing if others have experienced this and in any information you might have about 1) how this happened and 2) what this is. Do a web search of the string and see what you find.

Probably just a popup ad. Flash is the animated software that makes those annoying flashing graphics that take forever to download on a dial up. I have most all Flash blocked. The 160x600 would be the size of the window it makes when it pops up on your screen.

Depending on what browser you use different things come up. I use Firefox on a PC and sometimes it tells me it doesn't have a certificate in its library for the website I'm trying to go to - even when it's Microsoft's own website! I'm thinking the code writers just didn't want to include the competition in their list of known certificates.

There's all kinds of security settings you can set depending on what browser you're using. I don't know enough about the Mac versions to give you specific advice. You can search on the web for Firefox for Mac, or Safari, or whatever you're using.

Reg PNW.....Thanks for the info. I did run a google on it earlier today and it found nothing. I'm relieved at your reference to a flash/pop-up ad but I have never experienced these while viewing Garden Web before. I use Safari which is the standard Apple browser. jwww
