I don't think stainless is on its way out, but, you are looking to retire! Do you want to spend more time cleaning fingerprints, or enjoying your retirement?

And retirees usually don't have small children with sticky peanut buttery fingers hanging around the fridge on a daily basis. I'm always surprised by the fingerprint complaint as our SS fridge rarely gets finger smudges. Adults tend to open and close using the handles, but it is true that if you tend to put your hands all over the doors they will show more than a white fridge.

No. S S is front and center here in my retirement home. I don't see what the big deal is about fingerprints and S S. I have no problem at all (my appliances are Jenn-Air). Simply wash with soap and water and dry with a clean towel. Done.

HI -- Yes it is true - sort of . The trend is leaning towards white again due to people having had stainless steel ahd getting fed up with the maintanance . There is also new finishes that have come out like enamels , like what they had in the 20's and 30's and so on. I have a new fridge with a finger print free finish that kind of looks like stainless steel but with out the finger prints, it's called platinum. Just got new W/D with same finish,- but I have a stainless dishwasher that I hate - always cleaning it and it's never nice. But stainless is here to stay but it is nice getting more choices on the market. So lets just say stainless is just getting to be- not- as- popular anymore. New senior here too - hence the 47 !

Okay, if they bring out appliances in enamel finishes in all different color choices with SS trim I am SO on board. Viking does this with ranges, and I love it. Refrigerator and dishwasher companies, are you listening? I want charcoal gray enamel, or ivory, or pale aqua, or, or.....

I am a Senior too andd just bought some appliances last year. I am soory I didn't wait on the great colors I've seen here. Bright blues, reds!! They may be as dated as shag carpet in a couple of years but the nice thing about being over 60 is that I don't give a ****!

This may be common knowledge, but it was new to me. A friend that owns a condo cleaning business arms her employeed with cans of W-D40 to clean stainless appliances with. Works like a charm and the smell does not stick around but for a few minutes.

Shelly, I too have heard of using WD40 on SS, but I was not sure if you used the regular SS cleaner first and then applied the WD40, or does it remove the marks as well? Do you apply it to your cleaning rag and then rub it on? Also, how much? Thank you.

Stainless steel is still very much the most popular appliance today. White and black are starting to make their way onto the scene but it is not a huge comeback by any means. Best way to clean st. Steel is weimans wipes.

So if no as than what plz not the white it is yucky. Clean the as witj simple tree mineral oil

Well, we can't speak for ALL stainless-steel appliances, but our stainless-steel range hoods are as popular as they've ever been.

@mimemine: yes, WD40 is a great all-around cleaner for stainless steel. Since it's a mixture of oils, it dissolves fingerprints, dirt, grease, nicotine, etc, and leaves a clean & shiny surface. Simply spray some WD40 onto a clean rag or paper towel, wipe the stainless steel surface, then use a dry cloth/paper towel to mop up the WD40. There's usually no need to rub or scrub, unless it's a really stubborn dried-on stain.

Note: don't use WD40 or any other stainless-steel cleaner on any *matte* stainless steel surfaces, since the matte effect is usually due to a chemical coating which may be damaged by WD40, unless the manufacturer's manual explicitly states it's OK.

I have a mixture of fridgidaire and LG appliances. The finish on the fridgidaires is easy to clean and stays fingerprint free. The LGs are awful.

The WD40 is a great idea. The SS cleaner seldom works from what our clients tell us. We have always used and recommended that clients clean with soapy water, dry and then use regular mineral oil on a rag (saturate the rag). Keep the rag in a ziplock and reuse it until it gets so bad - then throw away. It will cost you a couple of pennies a year.

weiman's is expensive but it does work.

We ran an experiment on our Bahamas Realty Now TV show. WD-40 and plain old baby oil BOTH beat the expensive SS cleaner. As I recall, the baby oil was the best and the smell was nicer, too

My son worked in a restaurant during university. He said to lightly spray ss appliances with Pam, and wipe with a paper towel, with the grain of the stainless. Amazing results, and cheap!!

I tried something called ZEP and it was terrible. There were dark streaks and a really uneven finish. I am slowly washing the stuff off, but I was afraid to try anything else for fear of making things worse. If you are basically just using oil, then why does it not smudge or show fingerprints. Also, wouldn't the appliance be greasy?

You just wipe it off. No prob.
