Don't know about better fit for your DH but my DH and I find our new soaking tubs to be comfy (disclaimer; I'm 5'3", he's 5'8 1/2"). FWIW, we had Toto 1525 cast iron tubs. I'm not sure if they are still being made/sold but we got them based on lots of positive feedback here, and are very happy with them.

Have Kohler Devenshire (sp?)in our bath. Standard 5ft size but deeper and its a whirlpool. A few years ago it retailed for about $1000 but got it at HD for $450. DH and I both really like it.

debrak... that sounds like a terrific deal. Is it fiberglass or? Just getting into all this stuff now. For some reason I have it in my head the fiberglass tubs are hard to clean, however I have never had one or cleaned one.

We installed a BainUltra air tub..I think the model,is called BASA. it is 60 inches long and 21 inches high and 32 inches deep. I was always a shower person before I got this tub...but I absolutely LOVE it. I use it almost every night. It is incredibly relaxing. When I am done, I feel the same way I do after a really good massage. I believe the price was $1500 which made me cringe. BUT...I can truly say it is worth every penny. Bain Ultra guarantees the motor for twenty years.

Home Depot has on display in their stores an American Standard 5' whirlpool tub, designed for replacement of typical 5' alcove tubs, that's unusually deep and long thanks to a unique and proprietary overflow drain design, and it's not too expensive. Don't have model # or SKU handy.

I love the Kohler Archer tub! It has clean, simple lines, & an interesting, slotted overflow feature. It comes in a drop-in or alcove style. The link is to the 5 ft. bubble massage model, & it also comes in a whirlpool variety.

As DebraK noted, the Devonshire by Kohler is a nice tub too. It has an oval shape. Curvy shapes may better suit your room. The Devonshire is not overly embellished though. It's a simple, but lovely tub with graceful lines.

The Archer, a rectangular shape, is great with more modern, stream-lined bathrooms, but I think it could also work in more tradtional rooms. It's really versatile, imo. Just depends on the look you prefer. All the reviews I've read for both tubs have been outstanding. Good luck!

Sorry for the hijack -- but, Wanderingbooknut, we are considering on the Bain tubs. Wondering why you decided on the Basa. Do you use the tub as a shower also? I'd love to hear more about your Bain.

Anyway...we had to go with the BASA, because it is a very small bathroom and we needed to fit in a shower/bathtub combo. you can find pictures of the bath in a previous post. There are lots of Bain ultra tubs that are prettier, can be built in, etc....but we were limited by the size and configuration of our bathroom. I am very pleased with it. have had it for almost five months now, and use it almost nightly. From research I did, it is quieter than most air jets and the guarantee sealed the deal for me. It is very easy to clean and we can use bath salts and bubble baths in it. I understand that you cannot do that in whirlpools. Hope you see this post. I will try to remember to check back.

I have had nothing but problems with my Bain Ultra jet tub. My tub would turn on randomly throughout the night, so I would be in bed and hear air rushing from the tub in the middle of the night. Within a year of installation the lights on the keypad stopped functioning. Called their customer service department and they will not honor their warranty. Apparently their electronics and keypads are poorly constructed. The Bain employee I spoke to suggested I replace the tub altogether.
