Miele Oven - Perfect Clean Oven Racks

I have a relatively new Miele oven that is equipped with self cleaning, but I understand the racks are coated with the Perfect Clean coating. I am a "clean oven freak" but have not had much luck keeping the racks clean. I do alot of broiling, roasting and use the rotisserie so naturally the racks do get dirty. When I attempt to clean the racks, despite the Perfect Clean, the baked on brown spots do not come off without some really serious scrubbing. I do not clean the racks after every use...is that the problem? If anyone has had some experience with this it would be very helpful if you could share what I'm doing wrong or not doing.

Thank You

I was told by the Miele rep on their 800 # that you can leave them in during Self Clean and I have done this with much success. The only thing is they get a little discolored sort of rainbowish but they do get clean

    Thanks love2cook....,
I thought that was a no-no according to the use and care book. It's odd because the roasting pan comes clean without any problem, so I've really been disappointed with what I thought cleaning the racks would be a piece of cake.

Are you sure that they are coated with a Perfect clean coating? I didn't know that.

the racks are not coated with perfect clean, just the roasting pan

Caroline, you are a fountain of good advice. Thanks!

I tried the challah, it was delicious. I am still unsure about the temp, but it's not off by much, if anything.

On page 56 of the Use & Care Book: Did I misunderstand where it is written under the title PerfectClean that only in a PerfectClean oven are the "roasting pan and wire rack"
treated with PerfectClean and this does not pertain to the Self Clean Versions?

I am in NYC so I can't look at my book. I have the Perfect Clean in the interior of the oven and on the 2 baking pans. They are so easy to clean as long as you wipe off everytime. My racks do not look like or act like they are coated with Perfect Clean. If they get the "golden/brown spots" on them then it is a booger to get it off but it does come off with the heavy green restaurant scrubbies from DS1. I try to minimize all use of racks for messy stuff for that reason, which isn't hard since as I said I remove them when I use the oven unless they are needed.

Yolande you are a SWEETIE. I am so glad you liked it !

Trailrunner, you have the Perfect Clean Oven, I have the Self Clean...sounds like when it comes to the racks it's "on your own" either way you go. My oven only came with the roaster pan and yes it is very easy to clean. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Man, I admire you folks' motivation. I can't imagine scrubbing our racks after every use. I'll live with brown racks.

But I will back up eggcream's contention: the manual for our H4881 BP does state that the wire racks are coated with Perfect Clean and that they need to be removed before using Self Clean function. Just sounds like PC doesn't work that well on racks.

    Clinresga,
Glad you read the same as I did...Thought I was losing it!

OK I looked more closely at the interior. The glides on the side of the oven that position the racks look to be coated with perfect clean, but the racks that you place the food on look like regular oven racks and respond the same way. The side glide/racks have the same look as the perfect clean roaster pan and wipe up easily.

I knew self cleaning oven racks would be too good to be true. However, I found a little wire brush that I bought to get burnt food off cast iron, I tried it on the brown spots on the racks.....now NO MORE BROWN SPOTS and no scratches or etching either. I'm glad my racks are spotless now, and that I'm not losing my mind.

Hm. My perfect clean pan is a BEAR to clean! I hate cleaning it! It doesn't seem to work at all for me. Am I the only one??

mine just wipes clean - no problem whatsoever

I soak mine in hot soapy water, and with the green scrubber (and somethimes a little bit of elbow grease) it comes clean. I don't use it much as a catch pan with meat cooking on the rack above, because it's the rack that is hard to clean! Easier to use a roasting pan for me.

Mine is like Lucy's. I have never soaked or scrubbed. I do spray with PAM if I am doing anything messy and I also use parchment paper for some things. I would contact Miele , Chinchette and see about replacement pans. They should be a breeze to wipe off. c

Thanks. I'll contact them again. The first time I had trouble I called and asked them what to do with them, as they are so hard to clean. This time I'll be more emphatic and ask for a new one.

I have a Miele Masterchef H4881BP, which has Perfect Clean only on the racks and the roasting pan that slides into the racks. Nothing else has the perfect clean coating, per the manual, page 56.

The rest of the oven can be wiped out regularly, but as I found from frequent roasting directly on the rack, that doesn't get it very clean.

So, I use the Self Clean feature to cremate the cooked on mess after which it wipes out easy as pie!

I do NOT leave my oven racks in while using the Self Clean function, although nothing in the manual says not to that I could find.

The manual recommends cleaning the racks after roasting bc they can stain if food is cooked on repeatedly. I find them easy to clean using a non-stick cookware friendly scrubby, like a Dobie, and soap and hot water.

The manual also says "if the oven is not cleaned regularly, debris may become extremely difficult to remove even with the Self Clean function."

Bottom line, the Miele Perfect Clean ovens are the best of both worlds. Relatively easy cleaning roasting pan and racks AND self clean when you need to get the oven body really clean.

Another cool feature, if you don't have time to self clean, or don't want to deal with the yucky smell from self cleaing, but you want to wipe the oven. The door comes off easily so it's easier to reach the inside of the oven! AND the rack glides unscrew without too much trouble as well!

Please tell me how to open the front grass panel,I need to clean the spot in between the grasses. I have lost the instruction book while moving overseas.

What good is perfect clean if it does not aid in cleaning? Mine had baked on brown spots. I used DG clean and the other one for the combi steam oven. Useless products. I spent an entire morning cleaning one rack with SOS pads and not very effectively. My clean mode said remove racks before the clean function. I left the racks in and ran it any way. They came out shiny and clean. If I removed the perfect clean then so be it. I didn't find it to be that much of a bonus anyway.
