I don't know what they are either. But a sprinkling of diatomaceous earth kills a lot of insects. It is harmless to us (and our pets) unless we breathe it.

Moth larvae tend to be brought home in grain products like bird seed, pet food, rice, flour, meal, etc. These products need to be stored in airtight containers to prevent infestation in your home. Everything in cabinets and pantry should be removed and inspected. Infested products can be discarded. Every nook and cranny can be sprayed with insecticide like Raid and doors closed overnight. Next day, vacuum thoroughly, and scrub with disinfecting all purpose cleaner like Lysol. You can also place some moth traps in storage areas to help with control.

Remove everything from the closet. This is a good time to clean out the closet. Give away or discard anything you have not worn in two years. Spray every nook and cranny with insecticide and close the door overnight. Next day, vacuum every nook and cranny. Scrub with disinfecting cleaner. Wash everything that is washable. Send things that need to be dry cleaned to the cleaners. Never put anything into the closet that has been worn. Moths tend to be attracted to human scent and soil, especially on wool fabrics. Store seasonal clothing in cloth or canvas storage bags for protection. If you do not have such bags, fashion some out of old sheets and pin them up and around clothing. AN OUNCE OF PREVENTION IS WORTH A POUND OF CURE.
