OLLD 11/5

Good Morning OLLD ladies! I hope everyone is alive and well this morning! And now for the weather report....near record high temps are expected in the San Joaquin Valley this week...yesterday we hit 80 degrees, today should be even hotter. I refuse to shop for a Christmas tree in flip-flops and shorts! This is just wrong.

creeser, I once bought a little side table at a second hand store. I was planning to refinish it. Mineral spirits, nothing. Alcohol, nothing. Finally put it in the bathtub and used a scrub brush, lots of scouring powder, and hot water. That table cleaned up enough to paint without a coat of primer first! I use it next to my bed for my alarm clock.

Good afternoon, all. I'm taking a break from laundry & cleaning house. Senseless to do it while dh is here. At 1pm it's 82, which was to be the high. We, too, have warm holidays mostly, but in 2010 it snowed on Christmas Eve which is abnormal. We had less than a week of winter last year, hopefully that won't happen again but it should be much cooler than this by now. It is hard ti get into the spirit when it's so warm, but time's a tickin and the elves have gone elsewhere, so I have to get busy. Is it ok to wear a Santa hat with shorts?

Archad: Santa hat + shorts is allowed.

Taking a break from laundry & cleaning is NOT allowed, however. ;)

I spent all day with clients choosing cabinets, granite, trim color and redesigning the kitchen layout (with the kitchen designer, of course), and I am color dead. I have the granite sample here and tomorrow I am going to experiment with some colors to work with throughout their downstairs. So, a kitchen facing south/southwest, the adjoining living room facing east/southeast, an east facing bath, and east facing bedroom, a true interior room with a fireplace but no natural light and a west bedroom . South is the ocean right there at the end of their yard. The entire first floor gets such different light. The permanents right now are the cabs and the woodwork color which are exactly the same…BM Acadia white.

Tomorrow, if you don't mind, I will run the first combo of colors by you and see what you think. Their furniture is Thomas Moser. Thanks. I know it is 5 o'clock somewhere…oh! by golly, it's here. Think I need a marguerita. Maybe two and I'll be wearing a santa hat and shorts…no beard.

Hope to spend some time with you gals after supper.

Bobbi going to try the recipe. What with the flavored bread crumbs and the egg, I bet it would be great with some sauce and mozzarella cheese…kind of a burger parm! Yummy.

Oh, boy, creeser, one of the joys of living on the east coast…5 P M comes early. Let's toast our other gal pals.

michi (like your new nickname), I celebrate Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday Margaritas, too. I don't discriminate; I am an equal opportunity margarita drinker.

Bobbi P wish I were having enchiladas. Did a crock-pot chicken thing with fennel, but it is smelling pretty good. Rainy, damp and chilly here tonight.

granny, I wish I had a hot tub on days when my arthritis flares. I have had a massage every other week for several years to keep my muscles and joints mobile. For me, massage is a medical expense and not a luxury (although I do enjoy it). My rheumatologist suggested a product called Blue Emu cream. I buy it at the drugstore. It is about $18 for one jar, but it works well. I use a generous amount on my "hurty" places, and a half an hour later everything feels normal again!

Please forgive my inconsistent memory. To the nice woman from Canada who joined recently: if you take your shoes off when you enter the house, do you wear slippers to keep your feet warm? When you carry groceries in from the car, do you put all the bags in the entryway before coming indoors? I find my self wearing "spa" socks around the house. If I am doing some kind of gardening, I find myself tracking through the house to check the irrigation in the front courtyard, and out in the back garden. Back and forth... So much for trying to keep the carpet clean! Maybe I should buy a big box of those shoe covers that surgeons wear?

    Bobbi, so it is.

    Evening Ladies :)
Tipi, not sure if Im the Canadian your questions were directed to but I'll answer on behalf of us. Yes we take our shoes and boots off in the entry way/foyer when we come inside. Packing groceries in from the car means several trips from the car to the entry way to drop them all there then it's shoes and boots off and proceed on to hauling them all into the kitchen. As for the slippers, when it's really cold like -20 to -30 celsius you bet I wear slippers if I'm on the main floor or upstairs. We have heated concrete floors on the third and forth level which are toasty warm. The coldest weather i have ever experienced was on December 14 2009, -46 celsius and -58 with the windchill, only Siberia recorded a colder temperature that day.
My light fixture round up continued today, I have a few more set aside for the lake. I think I really need to sit down with the plan and figure out what's going where now.
Well,I survived the moving of the fire pit at the lake. several pieces of the base were frozen in place and it took some doing to jar them loose. Now we have the pit close to the shoreline where I like it. Nothing like taking off your skates when there's a roaring fire. I love to toast a marshmallow just enough so some stays stuck to the stick. Then your kind of left with a toasted marshmallow cup that can be filled with Baileys or the Liqueur of your choice.

Too funny groovygranny. yes -58 celsius with the wind. I was only outside for about 3 minutes all dressed up but I couldn't take it, the cold was unbelievable. I had the kids skating at 3years old. Although there were falling everywhere they had a great time and still skate and play hockey today. My Mom who's 86 still skates. My grandson started to skate last winter when he was 2. This winter I want to teach him to ski, there's no more snowboarding for me, the cracked tailbone was enough of a deterrent. If it weren't for the Glucosamine Sulfate everyday I couldn't do next to anything.

I think I know Boofhead, they say everyones got a twin :(

candace66, thank you for explaining about shoes left at the doorway. I am happy you have heated floors!

I am headed to the voting booth in a few minutes...oh joy...i shall not complain however for several reasons. I feel lucky to have a vote, (even though my vote will count for nothing in this state..lol), AND poor friends and family in nj suffering still with no power. Maybe no power for another week!!!
