What else do you have in the room to draw colour inspiration from.? You mention a brown sofa, are there any curtains in your room, do you have any paintings to put on the wall? I would work out these things first. It is much easier to make a paint decision when you have something in the room to work with.

I thought I added this image before, but I guess it didn't load. Thank you for the advice! We do not have any curtains, only blinds, that are pulled most of the day. I thought it might be easier to decide paint color before decor, but I must be going about this the wrong way! I have decided home decorating is not my forte!

I would suggest more of a taupe then a gray if you have brown furniture. It will compliment each other nicely. Since you have dark beams and probably dark moldings? I would choose a lighter color to contrast the dark wood. It will be a beautiful feature in your space.

Hi---based on your furniture, your architecture, and carpet-I think a hue of purple/periwinkle/gray would be best for your space. Look at color SW 6542 Vesper Violet, SW 6543 Soulful Blue, and SW 6544 Mesmerize. All three are on the same color chip. Attaching a pic for inspiration-color palette-art, etc. Good Luck! [houzz=]

I think you should paint the ceiling between the beams too, a shade darker than your final color. It looks like you've uploaded a pic taken with a phone so if you could upload a better pic, it's easier to recommend a color. And as the sun rises, sets, etc. the shade of paint gives off a different hue throughout the day so study your choices over a period of a few days. Great to have such light pouring in though.
