The island was sprayed with a grey laquer. It turned out very nice. One thing to consider though is that you give up the IKEA warranty when this is done.

are the white cabinets also painted, if so what type of paint was used

Did you have to sand down the cabinets first? How did they take to paint? Thanks!

Yes, The doors were lightly sanded. The doors are the Adel birch. The paint took well to the doors. jr
