I would place one large piece of wall decor centered above the bed, to draw the eye to the center of the wall. A mirror or something without color would be the best choice. If you use a painting with colors and the colors are heavy on the window side that could exasperate the problem.

I want to buy some nice artwork, so I've been thinking about that... do you think that I need to place something on the other side of the bed, sort of where a symmetrical window would be? There are nightstands flanking both sides, and they reach the wall (it's a small room).

Hi: No, I don't think you need to place something on the other side of the bed. Place two identical lamps on each nightstand, make sure the lamps are in good proportion to the room, not to big or to small and you should be good to go. If you upload a photo I will be glad to look at it to be sure.

Thanks so much! Here is a picture... I was actually standing in my closet to take it, that's how small the room is :-) The curtains are ivory color and I want to replace them with pure white. ... I would love your thoughts on what I might do here.

I would remove the nightstand on the left and scoot the bed over so that the headboard is not blocking the window.

You could also balance the whole bed/window by continuing to the window treatments to extend behind the bed & the side table.

I thought about that but since Debbie indicated that she wanted a pure white window treatment, I think it would look strange with the sunlight pouring through only the window portion of the window treatment. If she was willing to use a black out liner and keep the drapery closed then it wouldn't be an issue. My personal taste says, let the sun shine in!!

I love the sunshine, too! Let there be light... Thanks for all ideas everyone! I will first try the artwork over the headboard, and maybe a mirror over the nightstand... I tend to be picky, waiting and waiting til I see the perfect thing. So it might take a while :-)

Now I'm motivated to make my decorating decision quicker than my usual months and months... I'll post the after pic soon!

You have lots of choices, you could replace the left night stand with a floor lamp, (so you can move the bed left). Or, if you prefer a symmetrical look, you could put window treatments with black out lining on both the left and the right side of the bed (it would seem like you have two windows if you hang them high enough, without tab tops). Or, If you don't want the symmetrical look, you could pull the drapes to the far right, so it would look more intentional, (only close them at night when you need privacy). Last of all, you could move this headboard to another bedroom (if that's possible?) and replace it with two custom triangle bolsters that are not as tall. Last of all, a fabulous center pillow in a unique fabric (in place of the two matching pillows) would help if you're not going for the symmetrical look.

What about hanging up an identical curtain on the either side of the bed so it looks balanced and than a fantastic mirror above the bed?

Thanks everyone! I had tried the bed against wall but it's king and difficult to make the bed unless I can access both sides. Hoping a mirror over the nightstand can reflect something, perhaps light from the other window not seen in photo...I'm going shopping now, maybe something will come home with me ~ Carla
