We got ours through Costco and are Hunter Douglas True View. We chose them because they felt really sturdy when you open and close the shutter. Some of them "lurch" and "flex" when you pull them open out of the frame.

It's all preference and price point. You might shop around a bit to see what feels good for you.

Are they special order in the Penneys stores? We have a smaller store in our area. Also Costco has a brochure on Hunter Douglas blinds, but I didn't see any mention of Planter Shutters, just different types of blinds.

They are a regular item at our Penney's but you do have to order them if that's what you mean. I think the turn around time was similar to furniture...around 6-8 weeks.

When we were looking, we found the only place that had ready-made Plantaion Shutters was at Lowes. Those were faux-wood and fit a few standard size windows.

Ours are from Norman Shutter. Five week delivery.

Here, I found a link for the Costco one. I know, it's not easy to find. And they have it under "office" even though it's applicable to the entire home. I put my shutters in my MBr.

And I'm linking you to the shutter I chose. I ordered these last May and then a special came on at Costco that offered free upgrades. So I was able to get them to tag on the TruView. Maybe they will have this same promotion again this year?

We really like their quality and how sturdy they feel. We have the AmEx Costco card so we get the 2% back on purchases---helped ease some of that cost.

Ours are from Sunburst Shutters, the Polywood ones. We are extremely pleased with them. Our next door neighbor got shutters around the same time we did and theirs are not nearly as nice as ours. We got a great deal by going directly to the manufacturer and we also got the decorative trim for free since we did the whole house.

They were recommended to me by several people on this forum.

Does anyone have any recent experiences with buying shutters? Locally here in DE we have Budget Blinds, Blinds To Go, Costco, JCPenny & Yocum Shutters. I got a rough estimate from the last retailer listed which was about 520 per window, installed. I am hoping to get this done for a lot less than that.

Has anyone completed this project DIY? How did it go and what was the level of difficulty? I have done some basic carpentry work in the past.
