Gray was my first thought as well! The new neutral! Tones will determine actual gray--would depend on cabinet undertone. Upscale paint stores (think Benjamin Moore) usually have larger paint tiles to hold up to cabinet.

Agreed! It will be important to choose the paint color based on both the cherry wood and the white floor. Be sure to try it in the space with the lights on and off. Also, try it a few different times of day as the color will change as the light changes. It sounds like you are planning to change the back splash in the Kitchen as well. A crisp white tile splash that would relate to the floor would be beautiful with just the right gray wall color. Tile could be either glass or ceramic. For a fresh, glamorous look I would us a shiny tile whichever material you choose.
