Guess it just feels good to be clean. All the dogs I have, have always done the boogy after the bath!! Gave my anna a bath today after the dog park, and she boogied around the condo at 100mph!! Was quite funny!

I've always assumed that during the post bath excitement, my dogs were thinking, "The faster I run across the floor and roll all over the carpet, the faster I will get dry."

I think we can get to the bottom of this.
Is there anyone reading this who'd got a lab or some dog like that who really enjoys swimming? Do they run around like this after swimming and getting a bath? Are they miserable when getting a bath?

Hi...I'm usually lurking but I have two labs so I felt qualified to answer the question. :-)

After swimming, they usually shake off and go lay down somewhere. When being bathed they make me feel like the meanest mom on the planet (oh, the looks) and after the bath is over they run around like lunatics as all of you have described above. The worst is when Elle rubs herself on the walls leaving trails of wet dog clinging to the walls.

Must be a dog thing, but it's highly entertaining to watch!

I have a lab. The lab tolerates a bath much better than the hound dog. But I wouldn't say that she enjoys it because its not the same as running or swimming around in the water. For a bath, she has to sit still, and the water is warm, and the soap is stinky (she would prefer that it smell more like dead fish).

She does exhibit post bath exhuberance...

We have two corgi's. One LOOOOVES to be in the water. He loves to swim and he loves to take a bath. Actually, if you say "bath" you will find him waiting in the bathtub. He pretty much bathes himself! He runs around after swimming and taking a bath.
My other corgi, isn't very comfortable with swimming but after a dunk in the pool he does run around all crazy! he does the same post bath run around, although he hates being in the bath tub. He also runs around and wipes his entire body on the back of our couch so I figured he was both happy to be out of the bath and trying to dry off?
I think it is just so funny! Dogs are so silly!

Zoomies. I don't know, the act of being semirestrained and set free?

Mine just get baths outside with the hose. Bud loved it and would go roll in the dirt, come back and say, do me again. We'd do that a few times then down, stay.

My lab also gets the zoomies after a bath, running around the yard a hundred miles an hour then running and sliding into the grass and rolling around as if to say, "get this nice smelling soap off me!". Swimming in ponds, lakes and rivers doesn't get the same response.

I think kim is the closest. You're controlling them and making them feel yucky (except that one Corgi - lol) and then releasing them and they are celebrating! Moving around gets them back to feeling normal - like putting their now-clean-and-fluffy fur back to laying down close to their skin.

Why not give a bath right before an agility competition then?

ahhh the old puppy power surge. I love it. I love watching it and love the boundless happiness they exude after being so good in that bath. I think it is just that - they are thankful they survived another bath and love that they are out...rolling on my clean sheets on my bed, wiping his muzzle all over the new carpet, and shaking off tons of water onto everything and everyone...WONDERFUL

My pugs actually get mad !! Two of them will grab the towel while I`m trying to dry them and shake it or pull it and growl. The other two just do the running circle thing. Sooo funny !!

My dog has a ritual he goes through, first he does the carpet slide (or newspaper slide if there is one handy) then he rips through the house, then he attacks and tries to break the squeaker in his latest toy, when he is done with all that he will bounce his front legs off my leg and growl until I get the blow dryer out, he does love that blow dryer!
