Snug fit only do not jam the deckin with a hammer the way you would with an inside floor.

By end gapping I am thinking butt joints no space is needed make up a tight joint.

I pre drill through the G not the T be sure to drill thru the ipe only not into the pt frameI cut a 1/2'' slot in the T every 3' or so with the right install this and the screw will not show.

I never use klin dried decking for an outside project and I get EastTeak to mill the material with rounded edges and an extra 1/8'' in the G. Laying out the material with stickers like you have will problelly alow it to acclimatize ,I love that word,and not swell up after install. Use high grade construstion adhesive and be sure to provide Cross Ventalation under your project

You put the screws in the groove, not the tongue. Is this to keep the fastener hidden as the boards shrink in the dry season? Or is there another reason you do it like that?

Runing the screw thru the T will crush it down so it wont fit the G. J.

John...can you tell me how you go about cutting the 1/2" slot in the T? Do you use a router? How much do you take off?

Yo sparks, where you geting the ipe decking?

We cut the slots with a jig saw, run the cuts,tap them out. Keep in mind this is a learned little trick, your not killing snakes. Slow Down...... A T/G ipe install requires attention to detail. J.

I live in SC about an hour from Eastteak. I'm not buying the 5/4 x 6 ipe from george but am getting it from an importer in Charleston (just couldn't pass up the $1500 savings). I guess a lot of ipe comes into the ports of charleston (lots advertised on craigslist here). I'm still gonna drive up and get some garapa fascia from Eastteak to finish this deck off.

There are maney reasons for the cost of ipe from East Teak.

I had my contractor install a 2nd floor covered porch. It was nailed, and joints glued, over PT 2"x8" stringers. The decking material we're using is PT 1"x6" T&G planking that is smooth on one side and has the appearance of bead-board on the other side. The bead-board side faces down, creating the exposed ceiling of the first floor porch.

The PT lumber was stored according to instructions (stacked outside on a covered patio, with spacers for aeration and loosely covered) for several months.

Within one day of installation it severely buckled and cupped. Any ideas as to what went wrong and how to correct this problem?

If this project was exposed to the sun/rain>> dont nail it,defentley do not glue the joints if your talking about the T&G joints or your just asking for troubleCorection includes removal/reinstall with new material. J.

what are the requirements for oiling the t &G IPE on a screened porch - we have a sub floor.
