Picking lights/ceiling fans

We have a 1952 ranch. Three bedroom, very simple layout, 1800 square feet, in a woodsy, natural setting. We are having our tile ceilings covered with drywall and can now get new lights/fans - this is from a city subsidy. Ideally, they would be Energy Star lights and fans.

The ceilings are not high.

Our style is kind of a warm, eclectic modern style. Klee prints. Warm colors on the walls.

What kind of fan or light would you pick? I at first was thinking bronze, but one designer said that would be too dark and obtrusive. He suggested simple fans - perhaps a brushed nickel.

We have to decide quickly - the installation is next week.

Check out Matthews Fans if you want eclectic modern (not cheap, but so pretty!).

We have the Vent-Bettina (http://www.matthewsfanco.com/Matthews%20Pages/Vent-Bettina%20Gallery.html) in chrome with wood blades. We lov ours!

I have this in my kitchen and I like it. Pretty minimalist. You can use the 6" stem for an overall profile of 14".

I also have the 12" hugger version in another room and I really do not like it. It's not that much shorter and the shape is awkward, IMO.

Thanks! I like both of these designs. I was hoping to keep it under $300, but might not be able to.

How tall are the ceilings? If they are 8' or shorter I would steer away from any with a down rod. I had a hugger fan picked out and hubby found a different fan. We got home and realized it had a down rod and installed it anyway and I do NOT like how low it makes the ceiling feel.

I recently installed a Fanimation Mariano for right at $300. It's Energy Star rated and comes with two CFL's that produce plenty of light in our 17x22 room. It hangs down 18.75" with the standard rod but there is a flush mount kit available. It's a 5 blade but my pic only shows 4.
