Digital camera choices

For those of you that post pictures, do you use a digital camera? I'm thinking of getting one, but there are so many choices. What do you like, or don't like about your camera? What doesn't your camera have that you wish it had? Besides quilts I want to take pictures of my garden, and kids. Help.....

My digital is the cheapest you can buy less than $100, a Kodak Easy Share. It is perfect for me as I take few pictures. The pictures are excellent and it has a lot of settings. One feature I would like is most of the menu settings are manual and I would like some to be automatic like lighting.

You can look up models on the internet and they will give ratings along with pros and cons. Good luck, you will love your new camera.

My husband and I both love cameras and have had a few. Neither of us uses anything but the digitals anymore. Right now I have a fairly expensive Canon S3 and a not-so-expensive Nikon Coolpix L14.

I like the Canon but I keep the Nikon in my purse and take pictures with it constantly. I love it. It does a good job on auto settings but allows me to make some adjustments when I feel the need. Downloading pictures is easy with all the newer cameras.

Go somewhere like Best Buys and handle everything in your price range. See what feels best in your hand. It is possible to go too small so don't automatically pick the smallest one! I've found that the tiny cameras are harder to steady and tend towards blurry photos, even if they have the anti-jiggle feature. Be sure to check out the Nikon Coolpix and the Canon ShurShots. Both are a great size and really fun to use.

Once you decide what you like, check discount places on line to see if you can't get a better price. If you really like one, check eBay for the previous model. It would probably be just as nice as the one you like and someone is sure to be selling it off already!

I have a Casio EX-Z60 and LOVE it. It is very small, goes forever on one charge and takes really great pictures/video. I have a SD card reader and just plug in in and it is a removable disk, simple as pie to move/edit pics.

I have a Nikon coolpix that has WiFi so I press a button and it sends pics by e-mail. I LOVE that feature as I don't have a camera phone.

I have the Kodak easy share as well and have been pretty happy with it. The one thing to know is that digital camera eat batteries (on high resolution I can only get a few photos before it runs out of energy) and this one doesn't have a big battery, so I quickly invested in rechargable batteries and a charger (under $20 for all of it). --Amy

First camera I bought was a Canon Sure Shot A60 which DS#1 now has as I won a Kodak Easy Share about a year ago. I like both of them, although I think the pics are better with the Kodak. Yes, get rechargeable batteries and a charger so you will always have ready batteries.

The web site below is a good source of information on all makes of cameras.

I have a Sony Cyber Shot that I like very much. I carry it around in my purse with me all the time so I can always take pictures. It does take better pictures outside than inside though.

I like my Kodak Easy Share, too. It's very user friendly and I"m getting very good pictures with it, which is important.

    I have a Kodak Easy Share Z710 with a 10X zoom and 7.1 mp.
I like it very much and it takes good pictures. Does more then I know how to use. Jayne

I have a Nikon coolpix S4 and the only thing I don't like is taking outside pictures. My next one will have a viewfinder as well as the screen. I have difficulty seeing the screen outside.

Crikey - I've never seen a camera without a viewfinder!

Lots of the small ones just rely on the viewing screen. Since you don't actually look through the lens, the cameras are too small to allow space for the separate viewfinder. It's more accurate to look at the screen and see exactly what the camera sees, but in strong sunlight, many of the screens are hard to see.

I can see how that would be very difficult in sunlight.

I have the Kodak Easy Share and like it.I dropped it on the driveway 2 or 3 months ago and for about 2 weeks the camera wouldn't give live view. When I finally decided to take it in for repairs, I tried it and it worked. Been working ever since. Picture quality doesn't seem to have been affected.

Thank you for all the info. ladies. I'm telling you, there are so many choices...For those who take pictures of children, does your camera keep up if you take several shots in a row?

I have the Kodak Easy Share, also, with a memory card. I've found it's important to use lithium batteries (photo batteries)--they last a MUCH, MUCH longer.
Janice, mine takes a moment to reset, so it isn't like an old 35mm manual that you can take several shots/second, but it isn't bad.
Uploading is easy, and I can use the memory card to print directly from the printer (not uploading to the computer!).

I use a Samsung L73 and I love it! It takes great pictures and uses a SD card. It can be recharged by either the computer or by plugging it in to the outlet. I do not have to replace batteries every time I turn around.
