Punch Needle

You might have noticed that punch needle embroidery projects are popping up in quilt shops and quilting catalogs.

I first saw punch needle back in the early 80's, and thought it looked like fun, but I was just a kid in high school with no spending money (my starving college student years yet to come) and never got the tools to get started.

The current issue of Fons & Porter had something on the cover about getting started with punch needle. The current issue of Quilter's Home has a short article on a punch needle technique. You use fabric as the basis for your punch needle design, instead of "spending $15 for a small rubber stamped piece of fabric." Sounds like a great idea to me.

Has anyone tried punch needle embroidery? Got photos?
