Cream with that shade f gray sounds awful,, What about a very pale gray or a pale grayish beige? Purple will go badly with the gray. Very cold.

Better then, with just white? The walls are already white, so the less painting, the better anyway.

I think charcoal and ivory can look great together. And even though purple is not seen as often with them in combination, that's only because purple is a bold color to work with. For a nice ivory, you might look at BM Sail Cloth. It's an ivory with brown undertones rather than yellow. We love it (and used it on all of our trim), but I haven't tried it with charcoal.
