Question

Hi I am new to this forum. I am a stay at home mom and I have a 5 year old son. My question is, if you could start a business in your home, what would you do? I am very experienced in sewing and I have tried many things and ways to make money on the side. Does anyone see anything that you would like to see more of such as school uniforms, barbie doll clothes, etc?.... just to name a few. I would love to hear from anyone who may have ideas to share or help. Thanks.

Maybe the barbie stuff and american girl doll stuff if you're in a neighborhood where there are a lot of little girls. Not just their clothes, but the doll beds, furniture that's made from the velveeta cheese boxes etc.Another thing that might sell is doggie clothes, they seem to be all the rage now.Get your patterns when Joann's has their 99 cent sales.HTH

Thanks Kathi. I was hoping to hear more comments but I only got one response. I have tried selling Barbie clothes on Ebay but that didn't work out too well. I have not tried selling things in my local area yet but I am considering it. Thanks for your reply.

    hi
Try selling something that is diff than the regular craft shows stuff. Doll clothes good idea. and the accessories to go with it. make some up , take to the store and see if they will have it there to sell. Make up a book with pics in it. Make up cards. Get a web site. There is a woman I know, she was making and selling and going to craft shows. at times sold some stuff, then last few times not a thing. I have the same problem, but she said also she does horse stuff, all kinds of horse things, she sews and embroidery and makes more money from that. she ask me should she keep doing the craft shows . I told her to forget that and do the horse stuff that was giving her an income. she took my advise and now has more orders to do and even after she went to a horse show. and enough to keep her busy for a year. I wish I could say that. towels, potholders. placemats all to common to sell. She was doing that. and I am too.
With doll clothes there are always little girls around and don't forget the little boys. Good luck.B.

There are probabaly 95 percent of the women in the working force today. Even if they knew how to sew they don't have the time. I know plenty of women of go to a seamstress to have a a skirt or slacks shortened or altered and pay the going price. I think that is what is needed out there as there are plenty of women making doll clothes and novelty items. Although alterations are very boring, think it could be lucrative. When they pick up their hemmed clothing, etc, maybe you could have the American Girl doll clothes and Barbie clothes on display. Also have the matching Clothing for the little girls with the Am girl dolls. Just my humble opinion.
