OLLD 12/4

Good Morning! What's on everyone's agenda today?

We had to have a plumber (yes, complete with butt crack) come out yesterday to snake the main line. This is about the 6th plumber since we moved here last year. Isn't this a bit excessive?

bob, i just thought of something....i bet with all the rain you guys are getting all the sewage drains are getting full and maybe making a lot of household's main drain pipes to drain very slowly! as well as the past owner's dog hair! Know what I mean? Have you noticed that your problems get worse, when you have heavy rainfall?
MP, I agree that the item you found would be a handy moveable kitchen island. I think it could also be useful as a workbench with tool storage if one had a small garage or storage space. I also think it would be very handy in a craft room.
If lisalovesquilts found this thread and came back after a whole month of being super busy, she has perseverance, and definite interest in OLLD. I would welcome her to OLLD.
    Thanks eztia....

Bob, the reason I'm so hopped up today is because the sun is shining brightly here! You know how some people are affected by the full moon....well it's the sun for me!
MP, very nice utility cart. Is it a good working height? We ordered a rolling kitchen cart/ island from Lowes for our son and daughter-in-law...nice maple construction, easy to assemble and very sturdy.
It is a good working height and tough as nails because it's made for tools etc. The top is made out of some kind of wood-look material, but not a regular kind of laminate I don't think. Seriously good-looking in person. I think they are $298 online, but this same one is on sale at home depot for $268 right now. I wish I had a loft-industrial type space right now to use one. It would even be good in an art studio, but I have no room for anything else in mine at the moment.
The drawers are all lined with black material and that would be great for utensils. The big door on right could store pots and pans or big bowls and mixers. You could add a shelf inside that as well for more storage room!
Mendi, cool cart! Do you remember how much $$$$ ??? I need something like that for the spare room. The plumber said the drain pipe wasn't the proper height, much too short. He said it shouldn't be shorter than the washer so I guess this weekend we'll get an extension piece. I don't know if the street drains are backed up but if they are it would happen to everyone, no?

Where's creeser today? And I guess judyg doesn't want to be part of us any more. I've seen her commenting on dilemmas yesterday and the day before.
Oh, ok $268. I will talk to hubby!
    Made by Husky, Bob!

You tell them that some crazy sc woman recommended this to you and you want the $268 price whether it's on sale at your homey or NOT! lol

Creesy could be enjoying our weather right now....or shopping?????
Here I am MP! You were right on the second guess. I was out shopping in Cola town in this fabulous weather. Took The Momma Christmas shopping. She doesn't drive and Dad's a pain to shop with, so she relies on me. I bought nothing, but she got a good many of her gifts.
Shopping.........I remember shopping, in a previous life :)) R got a speeding ticket (first ever !!!) and a fix-it ticket for a grand total of $650. Isn't that special? Right before Christmas. And a few months ago he got a 'driving while distracted' ticket when he was plugging his cell phone into the charger. Wasn't talking, wasn't texting, just plugging. $240.00 please.

creeser, what a good daughter you are! Did you all have fun? Stop for coffee or lunch? creeser, are you ok with lisalovesquilts? She's 46, pretty close, no?
I window shopped while Mom did the real deal. I think I'll sit down with hubby tonight and get our Christmas list together and then point and click my way to a Merry Christmas tomorrow.
Oh my yes for lisalovesquilts! I wouldn't turn anyone away that loves to chat with us!
We always stop for lunch. Today it was a BBQ sandwich from Maurice's. They do a mustard sauce that's really good. No coffee today. We usually get one when we go to the book store. It's like my nirvana... coffee and books.
Did feeny get the results of her tests for that cough?
creeser, yes! Barnes and Nobles has a Starbucks inside. Books and Starbucks, I could spend the entire day doing nothing else.
"i feel a cheesecake moment coming on".... :o)

She has a bronchitis thing that lasted way too long! Not sure if I spelled that right. My daughter had the same thing and they gave her a huge shot in the butt and antibiotics!
Those hiney shots are good for getting a handle on the bad stuff.
My moment came from The Cheesecake Factory. Who needs supper after that?*L*
  • 13 years ago
I thought shots were called "Bee Bites" until I was a teenager I think....my pediatrician used to call them that and that's all I ever knew that they were! I loved him so much. So much that I tried to keep seeing him after I was WAY too old. He made me go to another doctor! HA!
Hard for me to find a doc I truly love...creesy, my last doc is in your neck of the woods now. She was my GP, delivered my child and did everything else. Her hub is a vet! Talk about having it made. I had all our medical needs met through one couple! I miss them so!
Is she here in my town? What's her name? I had a great doctor here in town and liked her so much. We had the same name! But her staff got to be too horrible to take. You could not make an appt when you were sick. Is that not ridiculous? Anyway.. changed to the one my Mom uses 30 miles away. Just convenient to get in to see her. She's a bit gruff, but I like to tease her and last time I was in there, I had her laughing so hard she couldn't speak. Love a challenge. *L*

Has anyone noticed the price of beef going up dramatically? I had heard it was going to be $10/lb by summer of next year and it's already starting to rise. Beef cube steaks were $5.19/lb in the grocery store yesterday. This is not choice meat! I'm becoming a vegetarian.
Good morning all looks like a beautiful day about to happen in ole Sydney Town.

Did you see Aja's post - she is expecting a bub any day now. How exciting, hope all goes well for her.

Love for Lisa to join us, I see her posts a lot -
always nice and interesting. She can keep olldcan company - our two fledglings.

I do make one condition though - I want to know all about the quilts.

Can't believe tradies' bum cracks are mandatory over there too. I thought it was just the Stubby thing here - Stubbies being a brand of work shorts/pants, not a beer can size although I think the amount of beer drunk has a lot to do with the size of the crack shown - LOL
  • 13 years ago
I did not know that about beef !!! Good Lord, I can barely afford groceries now. Have you all heard of Mi Pueblo markets? Yes they're Mexican. They have THE BEST meat, ever. And very inexpensive. I guess I'd better stock up now. Rats.
Haha Bobbi I don't think the rats was quite appropriate there - are you thinking of them in lieu of the beef.
roo, I hate to tell you this, but I think you've lost it!!! Maybe it's all those paint fumes !!!
Now that is a good thought Bobbi - maybe that is why BH is always so cheerful, he is high as a kite!!! Must go and open another can!!
Well that settles it, we will have to buy a freezer and stock up on some things. I don't think we have Mi Pueblo markets??? (Good thing I can't cuss here!)
Mornin Roo! and yes I just saw that about having a babe.... had no idea. has she asked about nursery designs or shown a nursery? I would be interested to see it!
Creesy, the name is Elizabeth Baxley and her hub is Ed Baxley (the vet). They are living somewhere right outside of cola, but not sure the exact address. She's a year older than me and I actually went to HS with her. We were not friends in HS, but when she became a resident. Love her to death!
mp - haven't seen anything about Aja's nursery, good thought though. The crazy post we were on yesterday, I asked her if she was bored and she came back with the news of her pregnancy.

You guys are sooooo spoilt with your food prices, considering the amount of beef that is grown here and exported o/s we still pay $25 kg and more for a good cut, I can remember when I bought a whole rump for that price. And cherries on cheesecake - at $15 kg, they stay on the shelves too. Food prices are the one thing my daughter hates about coming out here, she spends at least 3 times what she would spend at home.
mpoulsom - That is so funny - I saw exactly the same thing a HD and had exactly the same thought.

DH was horrified. He's a tradtionalist and if it's meant for tools then darn it that's all it's for. The top was kind of weird though. Like it was hollow metal with a wood pattern on it. Looked nice though.
Meat prices here are all over the place. Typical for a TBone is about $9.78. In Texas! Cattle country!
The drought last year was so bad, many ranchers just sold off their stock at dirt cheap prices. So I was expecting to see some seriously cheap beef before the price skyrocketed.

Sometimes I'll see good steaks for $5ish a pound for a few weeks and I'll stock up. But the price has stayed pretty constant all things considered.

I grew up in the Chicago area and I remember when fish used to be the cheap meal...
Well Roo, snake, alligator and kangaroo is prob really expensive here too! lol!

I think I bought some ground chuck the other night and it was3.99 lb.
I rarely buy meat though unless it's on sale. And I guess pork is going to go way down because of some news the other day about bacteria testing etc. oh boy. I'm sure that bacteria has been in pork for eons...we just didn't know about it. Thank God, my stomach is like iron!
Think my iPod is playing up. Get a comment done and it drops out before I can hit submit - Gerry

Mp - who eats snake, crocodile, and roo anyway. Actually we don't have snake meat at all. Probably a bit like your venison - an acquired taste. I don't eat much meat anyway prefer chicken or fish. Chicken breasts range from around $15-20 kg and the salmon steaks I love are around $30-35 kg. I only buy on special for around $20.

I do love pork from time to time but I was brought up that it had to be well cooked because of any bacteria issues. There has always been very divided opinions on pork. I notice now in restaurants it is only half cooked like everything else so maybe that is why bacteria problems are emerging again. I only ever bake mine with sliced apples and spices as we now have what is called "heart smart" pork, very low in fat so if you fry or grill it it is like eating a dry, tasteless piece of cardboard.

When my d and her partner went to the Fish Markets on Sunday he bought some fancy Alaskan crab he had seen on a TV programme - $65 kg!!! But he had to check it out.
My iPod is definitely playing up getting emails re comments that aren't here. AND changing my words too - Gerry was meant to be grrr

Talking about Chrissie shopping earlier - DD rang yesterday in the middle of the standoff to say she was going shopping for all her brood and WOULD I MIND if she did my shopping for me????
Must think I have rocks in my head or maybe she agrees with Bobbi that I'm o/d on paint fumes.
Hi all, I now pay over nine dollars for a jar of peanut butter, and canned tuna is one dollar per ounce. Good thing beans and split peas are still low cost!

I am going to have the carpet cleaned next week. I hope the hallway and foyer carpet can be revitalized. Those areas get so much traffic...the cut pile is flat!

Here is a question. When I vacuum, I move from room to room, and pull the vacuum cord along behind me. The black cord leaves black marks on the corners of my white walls and on door frames. Does this happen to any of you, or are you good and unplug the vacuum when moving to a new room?
eztia, I unplug, but that's because I have to. The cord isn't long enough to stretch from room to room.

roo, who's Chrissie? Did I miss something?
Olldbobbi, okay, I guess I should be "good," as you are, and move the vacuum plug from room to room, so the cord doesn't make black marks on the corners of walls. I need to repaint the baseboards anyway.

(I think Roo meant Christmas shopping when she said "Chrissie.")
Holey Moley - $9 for a jar of peanut butter!!!! What size is that?? I wanted to try a special honey that is supposed to be very good for you but baulked at $10 for around 500g.

Don't have a vacuum cord problem and mine gets yanked everywhere, but my cord is grey to match the vacuum. Have to colour code cords don't we. Check your cord eztia, is it very rubbery? Many years ago I had an iron that had a black cord and it used to rub black all over the ironing board cover and my clothes if I wasn't careful. The covering was quite rubbery which I think was what caused it, it seemed to be breaking down. I had the cord changed and never had a problem after that. Might be worth getting a new cord on it - get a white one.

Am I talking Aussie again? Yes Chrissie is Christmas - full marks eztia!!!!

OK, so I got an email advising of a post by mp but it isn't here.

It reads - "Rio, I want one for my next house! ;) Roo, maybe she was still pulling legs! Really has a wild sense of humor......"

    Is anyone else missing it?
Mornin' roo! I don't have that email from MP. I get email notifications of comments that I can't find, too, I call them ghost emails!
Good morning at 10 pm. Aren't you ever inclined to just lie in bed and relax???

I was wondering if mp might have deleted it otherwise certainly have something in the system. Have you noticed lately it takes ages to submit a comment? I have noticed quite a few people have their comment on 3 times which makes me think they keep clicking on submit thinking it isn't going through. I've put two on a couple of times, this way but I always check and delete one immediately.

So what is on your agenda today?

Builder came over this afternoon, he can't do anything until the new concreting has dried but we had a really windy day today and kept the house wide open and he was very pleased with how quickly it is drying. We had a little chat and I gave him a big thank you for fixing the shower recess and he was really good about it. Didn't know for sure how he would be but he came and had another chat when he was ready to leave and all was back to normal.
roo, you're funny! No, I never feel the need to just lie in bed and relax !!! When I wake up I'm fully awake and ready to go and can't wait to get out of bed.

YES! It does take forever to submt a comment! I have a lot of trouble on Houzz so I thought it was just me. For instance, on the pull down menu (photo, products, etc.) my menu disappears as soon as I move the cursor, which makes it a challenge to make a selection. And I think you're right about Houzzers deleting comments after they hit our email. Once a Houzzer threatened to report me to Emily after I made a testy comment about LOL, but when I went to that particular dilemma the Houzzer's comment was no where to be found.

I'm so glad you and your builder were able to work things out. He probably still has a long to-do list and if your relationship wasn't good, well that would just make things bad. Good job! I'm very happy you stuck to your guns.

My agenda? I'm making my dog a bed so I'll be working on that today, but really nothing else, certainly nothing exciting! Waiting for more rain, supposed to hit sometime today:))
    Good morning ladies!
Roo, so your issues have been addressed and all is well?
bobbi, my dog would never sleep in a bed unless it's mine. *L*
  • 13 years ago
How cute. How are you making the bed? I presume it will be for the room with his kennel. Will you do him a wardrobe next?

I think the builder owes us in a way but I would never call him on it because we have just been ourselves. We have done everything possible to ensure the job has run smoothly, had everything on site ready for him and he has often expressed his appreciation for how organised we have been and the consideration we have given him, especially when he decided to have his op instead of doing the main bathroom so he has certainly had no complaints up till now so I don't think it a big deal for him to redo the shower as I wanted. I'm just glad the air is cleared and things are back to normal.

I think after years and years of rushing out of bed of a morning and dashing out, it is such a luxury for me to wake up and not have to and in winter I so love being able to snuggle back down under the doona, it has become a little 'retirement' ritual for me.
Yes creeser, thanks, we are all friends again. The tiler starts Friday and is going to work Saturday as well to make up for lost time. The extra 8" doesn't seem much, but gosh it looks so much better.
roo, so glad you got it resolved. Sometimes what we think is going to be a horrible confrontation, just isn't. It has to be a relief. That's just too much to worry about right here at Christmas.
My brain is just in too much overload to really even think about Christmas. I think I did the right thing making BH deal with it................. the blokey thing diffused a huge confrontation.
Going to bed, really tired today, must have been two nights tossing and turning over the bathroom. Actually got quite cold here too which is good to get things done, even had snow down on the ranges, which is most unusual for this time of year. Guess your silly heatwave bobbi has turned to cold here. At least it is easy to sleep too.

    Talk tomorrow.
roo, you're funny, no I'm not making him a wardrobe! The bed is for the living room, he likes to be with us while we watch tv even tho all he does is sleep. I'm just using some scrap lumber, foam and left-over indoor/outdoor fabric. Just a simple box construction.

creeser, Rocky was so well trained when we got him, he knows the word "bedtime" and he must sleep in his kennel. Actually I think he was a bit overtrained and not in a good way. He's afraid of everything. We've had him for a year now and he's def relaxed more now compared to the beginning, but I've never seen a dog so scared of so much.

I'll open 12/5 now, anyone hear from lisalovesquilts? Where'd she go?????
bobbi - that sounds like Rocky didn't have a very good life before. He must have been very insecure but glad to hear you have given him such a good home he is gaining confidence............. especially with his own room complete with kennel and a bed to watch TV. So he sleeps though it, I can so relate to that too. Actually if he sleeps so much then he must be feeling a lot more secure. Maybe he might like a teddy bear to curl up with.
