CFLs

It has been my experience that CFLs only last slightly longer than regular incandesent light bulbs. To me, this doesn't translate to a very good price/energy savings. Ever notice, CFL boxes say they last five years. Not in my house.

Unfortunately that 10,000 hour statistic is predicated on continuous use.
Lawrence LIvermore Lab determined that the life is severely restricted if you actually turn the bulb on and off regularly.

Mother-in-law took that statement about 10,000 hours seriously. Every time a bulb burned out she took it back to the store and got a new one in exchange.
